News – Yemen: Foreign Minister, Hisham Sharaf, said that Sana'a exercises the highest levels of restraint in order to facilitate reaching a lasting and comprehensive peace that preserves Yemen's unity and sovereignty.

This came during his meeting today with the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund, Natalia Kanem, and her accompanying delegation that is currently visiting Yemen.

Minister Sharaf called for intensifying the efforts of the United Nations, its organizations and agencies, to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, and to activate the humanitarian and diplomatic role in order to bring peace.  He affirmed that the Salvation Government in Sana'a is trying to deal with the situation left by the coalition war on Yemen through the available resources. He indicated that the Yemeni citizen was targeted in the first degree by the coalition bombing operations.

He stated that the work of the United Nations Population Fund in Yemen during the past twenty years and through three development plans, targeted and destroyed by the coalition in six years of aggressive military operations and indiscriminate bombing of most projects and infrastructure in Yemen.

Minister Sharaf expressed the hope that this visit would shed light on the deteriorating humanitarian situation that women and children are living in Yemen, especially in the nutritional and health aspects. The Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund indicated that Yemen is one of the countries that receive priority on the list of the Fund's policies and programs.

She expressed hope to see peace in Yemen in the near future,pointing out that the fund is studying the humanitarian situation in Yemen and the aspects that require support and assistance in order for it to provide aid according to the citizen's interest during the next phase.
