Sana'a Confirms Commitment to Cooperate with UN Group of Experts

News - Yemen: The head of the National Team concerned with dealing with the United Nations Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen reiterated the Salvation Government’s commitment to cooperate with the group.

AbduleIlah Hajar affirmed on Tuesday the commitment to provide all necessary facilities to perform the tasks of the Group of Experts, including providing it with information on violations and crimes committed by the coalition of aggression, responses to inquiries it sends and welcoming its visit to Yemen.

Hajar's remarks came during a virtual meeting held by the National Team with the participation of the United Nations Group of Experts to discuss the fourth report of the Group on the human rights situation in Yemen. The report titled "A nation abandoned: A call to humanity to end Yemen's suffering" was released on 8 September 2021, and covers the period from July 2020 to June 2021.

The head of the National Team considered the meeting as an opportunity to enhance cooperation between the two sides, expressing hope for holding periodic meetings using the virtual meeting technique, in light of the continued refusal of the coalition and the pro-aggression government to allow the UN Group of Experts to visit Yemen.

Hajar touched on the violations and crimes committed against civilians and civilian objects for the seventh year in a row. He expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the UN and the international community to provide the necessary resources for the work of the Expert Group.

Meanwhile, members of the National Team and representatives of a number of ministries, institutions and government agencies addressed the initial observations on the fourth report of the Expert Group. They stressed that the conflict in Yemen is an international conflict and not an internal one, and that the legitimacy is for the government of national salvation and not for the government that resides in hotels in Riyadh and a number of capitals of the world.

They referred to the crimes and violations that were not addressed in the fourth report, including the occupation of the southern governorates and several Yemeni islands by the Saudi and UAE, especially the governorates of Mahra and the Socotra Archipelago. In addition to the use of internationally prohibited weapons, primarily vacuum, cluster, and phosphorous bombs, among others.

The members of the National Team pointed out that among the crimes and violations of the countries involved in aggression against Yemen are the torture and killing of prisoners in the most heinous ways. They also affirmed the support of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression and its mercenaries to al-Qaeda and Daesh in Yemen, and the indirect effects of the aggression and siege on millions of Yemenis, whose victims are more than what was caused by the coalition's air strikes.

They reviewed the suffering of Yemeni women as a result of losing family members and children due to malnutrition and starvation, in addition to the consequences of the continued closure of Sana'a International Airport, and the detention of fuel ships by the coalition and its mercenaries.
