News - Yemen: The Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Urgent Maintenance and Comprehensive Assessment of the Safer Reservoir Ibrahim Al-Saraji discussed the current status of the Safer Reservoir, and possible proposals to address its situation, in order to prevent an environmental disaster in the Red Sea.

In the meeting, with the Acting Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Oki Lutsma, on Thursday, the Chairman of the Committee referred to the reasons that still delay the implementation of the agreement.

“The United Nations Office for Project Services submitted an implementation plan that canceled most of the agreed maintenance work. It failed to respond to the Committee’s repeated calls to adhere to the agreement as soon as possible, especially in light of the deteriorating situation of the reservoir, as a result of being without any maintenance since the start of the US-Saudi aggression.

The Chairman of the Committee called on the United Nations to carry out its responsibility with the seriousness necessary to end the obstacles, to find the practical solution to avoid a potential disaster.

He stressed the keenness of the Supreme Political Council on the marine environment of the Red Sea, providing all necessary facilities to prevent the oil spill risk.
