Hezbollah on Saudi Pressures: Lebanese Are Not for Sale!

News - Middle East: Hezbollah officials on Sunday slammed Saudi pressures exerted against Lebanon over comments made by Information Minister George Kordahi on Yemen war.

Deputy Chief of Hezbollah Executive Council Sheikh Ali Daamoush stressed that Lebanon can’t be blackmailed by Saudi or UAE, firmly rejecting any attempt to violate the Lebanese sovereignty and dignity.

In a local ceremony in the southern town of Al-Sharqiyyah, Sheikh Daamoush criticized several Lebanese politicians and journalists over subduing to Saudi, stressing that most of the Lebanese people are rather “not for sale and refuse to be blackmailed.”

Meanwhile, the Hezbollah official stressed that the Saudi campaign to press Lebanon over Kordahi remarks indicates Riyadh’s failure in both Lebanon and Yemen.

For his part, member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc MP Hasan Fadlallah said the Lebanese Resistance movement wants good relations with Arab brothers, but stressed that attempts by any state in order to dictate its own policies on Lebanon is refused.

In a local ceremony in the southern border town of Ayta Al-Shaab, MP Fadlallah pointed to democracy and freedom of speech as respected rights in Lebanon.

“We don’t accept that any state would impose its oppressive regime on us,” the Hezbollah lawmaker said, noting that some of these states have ruled their countries “with iron and fire.”

“In Lebanon, we don’t accept any violation to our national dignity and sovereignty.”

Saudi Arabia has been leading attempts to press Lebanese government to resign over remarks made by Kordahi on the Saudi-led war on Yemen.

In an Al Jazeera-affiliated youth show last August, Kordahi was asked the difference between the Lebanese Resistance group Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthis. The information minister said Houthis defending themselves against Saudi and Emirati aggression on their country.

Kordahi defended his comments, saying he voiced his personal views before being appointed as an information minister.
