News - Yemen: The United Nations is politicizing the maintenance of the Safer, Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) oil vessel moored off Yemen’s west coast, and canceling important points of the agreement, the head of the supervisory committee for the implementation of the maintenance agreement for the FSO Ibrahim Al-Siraji affirmed on Thursday.

During a press conference at the Foreign Ministry building in Sana’a, Al-Sarraj revealed several violations of the United Nations team on the agreement.

Al-Siraji indicated that the agreement with the United Nations consists of 16 main points that clarify the maintenance and examination work that was supposed to be carried out by United Nations experts.

“We were surprised that the implementation plan presented by the UN included canceling 10 out of the 16 points, which represent 90% of the importance of maintenance work,” he added.

He pointed out that the implementation plan presented by the UN was limited to examinations only, without carrying out any of the agreed upon maintenance.

“The agreement was emptied of its content by the UN and it politicized the issue, which was aimed at reducing risks and not ending it on the Safer ship,” Al-Siraji added. “Through the clear and repeated procrastination of the UN and its media misleading, it became clear to us that they wanted something other than maintenance.”
