Will UN-Sponsored Truce End or be Extended Amid US-Saudi Lack of Seriousness?

Yemen: The humanitarian military truce entered its last quarter, amid a decrease in the obstruction and procrastination of the US-Saudi aggression. This stems from its desire to extend the truce.

Observers say that the aggression is living in a confusing situation, and that Sana’a has provided, through the current truce, complete evidence of its readiness for peace, which was lacking seriousness by the aggression.

The political council is discussing a request for the extension. The Yemeni conditions, if approved, will be more stringent and extensive with regard to blocking military violations and expanding the scope of the humanitarian issues as a human right for the Yemeni people, provided that actual steps begin by stopping the aggression and lifting the siege.

The Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government affirm that the truce is just a preparation to move on the path of permanent peace and is not enough in itself, and that Sanaa entered into the truce from a position of strength and seriousness, both of which lacked by the US-Saudi aggression.

“We feel in the Supreme Political Council of the Republic in Sana’a that there is no real seriousness on the part of the US-Saudi aggression in bringing peace,” said Dr. Yasser Al-Houry, Secretary of the Supreme Political Council.

“It wants a weak Yemen, a divided Yemen, and a scattered Yemen. At the same time, the changes that took place in the region and the world pushed the coalition of aggression towards truce, especially after the third Siege-breaking operation,” he added.

On March 25, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the implementation of the Third phase of “Siege-Breaking” operation, which targeted the Saudi depth with large numbers of ballistic and winged missiles and drones.

The Armed Forces explained that the operation included targeting Aramco's facilities in Jeddah and vital facilities in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, with a batch of winged missiles.

Large numbers of drones targeted the Ras Tanura refinery and Rabigh oil refinery, and Aramco, Jizan and Najran, with large numbers of drones, he added pointing to the bombing of vital and important targets in the regions of Jizan, Dhahran al-Janoub, Abha and Khamis Mushait with large numbers of ballistic missiles.

Al-Houry continued: “ The operation was wide and dangerous, so the aggression realized that by continuing to fight in light of the changes the world is going through, it is making a mistake.”

“We say that if there is seriousness towards peace, there must be a permanent cease-fire, a halt to the aggression, and a lifting of the siege. These are the foundations of the operation and the humanitarian issue. Then everyone moves on to talk about any military issues, and then the political process,” he added.
