One Day Before Truce Expires, First Commercial Flight Departs to Cairo

News - Yemen: The first commercial flight left Sana'a International Airport for Egypt on Wednesday with 78 passengers on board, after a hiatus of more than six years.

The flight, the first heading to Cairo, came on the penultimate day of the end of the two-month truce announced by the United Nations on April 2, after the forces of aggression obstructed the operation of 16 flights to Jordan and Egypt.

This flight is the seventh out of 16 included in the humanitarian truce, and the aggression delayed its implementation until mid-May, two weeks before the truce ended.

In May 16, the first commercial flight took off from Sana’a International Airport towards the Jordanian capital, Amman, after weeks of intransigence by the forces of aggression in implementing the truce.

The two-month humanitarian and military truce under the auspices of the United Nations entered into effect on the second of last April and ends on the second of June 2022. Throughout the duration of the truce, the forces of aggression have been obstructing the implementation of the truce, refusing to allow flights to reach Sana’a International Airport.

The humanitarian truce in Yemen provides for the operation of two commercial flights per week to and from Sana’a Airport to Jordan and Egypt.

The Civil Aviation and Meteorological Authority called on the United Nations to "adhere to the provisions of the truce by operating the 16 agreed-upon flights during the remainder of the truce, to alleviate the suffering of Yemeni citizens."
