Shura Council Condemns US-Saudi Continuation in Obstructing Entry of Oil Ships

News - Yemen: The Shura Council condemned the continuation of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression in maritime piracy and preventing the entry of oil ships to the port of Hodeidah in light of the validity of the declared truce agreement.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Council denounced the insistence of the aggression in furthering the systematic policy of siege and starvation against the Yemeni people and obstructing the arrival of oil ships, which increased the suffering.

The Council's statement deplored the coalition's failure to adhere to the terms of the declared truce and its continued imposition of restrictions on oil ships with the aim of suffocating the people and increasing the cost of oil prices. It stressed that preventing entry to fuel ships despite their inspection and obtaining UN permits, is a crime that contravenes international and humanitarian norms, charters, and laws.

The Shura Council stressed the importance of adhering to the terms of the truce and working to end the obstacles through which the coalition of aggression is trying to disavow its implementation. It considered the truce in light of the repeated aggressive actions by the coalition, just a media propaganda.

The Council held the Saudi-led aggression and the United Nations fully responsible for the human suffering and losses resulting from the continued detention of oil ships, their high cost and negative repercussions on citizens in all walks of life.

The statement called on the free people of the world to stand in solidarity with the Yemeni people and to put pressure towards stopping the aggression, lifting the siege, opening Sana’a International Airport, ports and roads, and allowing ships to enter without hindrances.

The Shura Council statement called on the United Nations and its Special Envoy not to ignore the repeated humanitarian calls, to assume their responsibilities, and to compel the coalition of aggression to abide by the terms of the truce and to comply with the agreements and laws that criminalize acts of maritime piracy.

In early April, after Yemen’s Supreme Political Council declared a voluntary and unilateral three-day pause in retaliatory strikes against targets in Saudi Arabia, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the nationwide ceasefire, for the first time since 2015.

The deal stipulates halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen's lifeline Hodeidah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana'a "to predetermined destinations in the region ."

However, in light of UN silence, the Saudi-led aggression was still obstructing flights to the Sana'a International Airport in Yemen’s capital and detaining fuel ships that were headed to the country. The fires of the aggression side did not subside along the fronts, on the borders and inside, including shelling, reconnaissance, development and crawl.

In early June, the United Nations announced that Yemen’s National Salvation Government and the US-Saudi coalition have agreed to renew the two-month truce after days of negotiations and promises to fulfill the terms of the agreement.

The UN envoy noted that the truce was extended under the same terms as the previous one.

The United Nations continues to condone the crimes committed by the Saudi-led aggression. It only holds the coalition responsible for crimes when it seeks to blackmail the Kingdom and oblige it to pay millions of dollars. The UN is not concerned with the souls of the victims, as it provided cover for this aggression for years, and kept silent in the face of many of its criminal practices, whether through raids or sieges.
