News - Yemen: Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation announced that the losses of the agricultural sector as a result of the direct targeting of the US-Saudi aggression amounted to about seven and a half billion dollars.

The Minister of Agriculture Abdulmalik Al-Thawr explained that the aggression and siege caused the destruction of agricultural sectors and direct destruction of infrastructure, which caused a decline in agricultural production.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.
 
The US-Saudi aggression continues to target neighborhoods and populated areas and destroy the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.
 
The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.

The impact on the agricultural sector was severe and its repercussions affected more than 56% of the population working in this vital sector, and that the repercussions would continue for years to come, according to the Minister of Agriculture Abdulmalik Al-Thawr. The occurrence of indirect damage represented in the loss of production and alternative opportunities for production.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Dr. Radwan Al-Rubai has affirmed that various forms of targeting Yemen during the eight years of aggression and blockade had affected the agricultural sector, including food security. 

He pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture is determined, in the ninth year, to endure the effects of aggression and blockade in the agricultural sector, and to turn challenges into opportunities, stressing that the goal is to achieve self-sufficiency and make an agricultural revolution in various parts of Yemen.
