Saudi Arabia Unloads Shipment of Weapons on Socotra Island

News - Yemen:  Saudi ship has unloaded a new shipment of weapons in the port of the occupied Yemeni island of Socotra, in the Indian Ocean.

"The Saudi ship unloaded the weapons shipment during the past hours at the berth of Hulav port, southeast of Hadibo, the capital of the island," local sources said.

The Saudi forces had transferred the shipment of weapons to the headquarters of their forces on the island, without mentioning other details, according to Al-Mahariya TV.

Saudi Arabia along with the UAE waged an aggressive war on Yemen on 2015 and took it as a way to achieve their goals in the south of the country.

The increasing rifts between Saudi Arabia and the UAE prompted the two countries to strengthen their presence in the occupied governorates, as each of them established alliances with Yemeni factions and used them to achieve their goals.

During the eight years of aggression, the two countries sought to gain influence in the Yemeni coastal areas and in the south of the country, with the aim of strengthening their presence at the maritime shipping lines in the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, towards the Horn of Africa.

Riyadh announced, in June 2020, the withdrawal of its forces from Socotra, while allowing the forces of the Emirati-backed Southern Transitional Council to take over the administration of the island.

But the Saudi regime changed its position when the UAE reinforced its presence on the island following the normalization of its relations with Israel.

Saudi Arabia strengthened its forces by sending more than 230 soldiers to Hadiboh Airport, last June.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE send more arms shipments to the island of Socotra, at a time when the people of the island are suffering from an acute shortage of food.

In mid-September, the UAE announced the recruitment of nearly 500 islanders into its militias, and the intention to transfer hundreds of its militias that it had brought from Al-Dhalea and Yafa to Al-Mahrah.

During the past two days, an Emirati military committee arrived on the island from Aden, to number the recruits with the fingerprint mechanism, amid promises to send a new shipment of weapons after completing the training of the recruits.
