The Hill: Saudi Arabia Run by Tyrannical Killer, Riyadh Killed Over 377,000 Yemenis

News – Middle East: The Hill, American newspaper, stated, in a report, that Riyadh killed more than 377,000 Yemenis and executed more than 523 Saudis, during the time that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ruled Saudi Arabia.

The newspaper pointed out that "President Joe Biden and the Democratic-controlled Congress had many opportunities to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for this, but they continued to kick the can down the road."

The Hill stated that Saudi Arabia's goals in Yemen are simple, which is to empower a puppet leader and cause suffering to any political opposition, even if they are civilians, noting that Saudi Arabia "formed a coalition in 2015, and this coalition, led by Riyadh, launched a war It consists only of an air campaign and a blockade."

It added that this campaign has left more than 17.6 million Yemenis in need of food aid, pointing out that civilians constitute, in general, more than 19,200 of the total dead or maimed in Yemen.

The Hill said that air and sea campaigns that are not accompanied by ground forces do nothing but harm, so waging a campaign that is not on the ground will only lead to suffering, not to stability.

In its report, the newspaper addressed the Cato Institute's annual arms sales risk index, which measures negative factors associated with arms sales, revealing that "Saudi Arabia is one of the 30 most dangerous countries in terms of arms sales to it."

"These weapons are used for human rights violations," it added, pointing out that "there are high levels of government corruption in Saudi Arabia, and there is a great risk that these weapons will find their way into the hands of the wrong people."

In addition to the harm done to civilians, reports indicate that "weapons sold to the coalition end up on the black market and are sold to terrorist groups."

Despite this, Riyadh has also been America's first arms buyer for 13 years in a row, because 3 consecutive administrations have prioritized the profits of defense contractors over human rights.

The newspaper concluded by saying, "Saudi Arabia is run by a sticky tyrant who kills people abroad and in his own country, distributes weapons to terrorist groups, and runs a state that represents the antithesis of freedom."

The Intercept reported earlier that "a group of Democrats in the US Congress, led by Representatives Ilhan Omar and Joaquin Castro, is pressing to re-supervise the atrocities committed during the Saudi coalition war in Yemen, with the change in the US relationship with Saudi Arabia."

It said, "US President Joe Biden requested sovereign immunity for the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, in the lawsuit over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi."

An argument took place between the White House and Senator Bernie Sanders over the War Powers Resolution, which bans US support for offensive operations led by Saudi Arabia in its war against Yemen, after Sanders agreed to withdraw his decision.

Sanders was heading to put forward a vote on the war powers resolution in the Senate, which aims to prevent US support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen, according to what was reported by the Intercept a few days ago, which indicated that withdrawing this resolution encourages bin Salman to continue his war against Yemen.
