Al-Ejri: American, British Representatives in UN as Scammer Fox

News - Yemen: The Member of the National Delegation, Abdul-Malik Al-Ejri, said that the intervention of the American and British delegates in the Security Council reminded him of the Scammer fox in Shawqi’s poem.

He wrote in a tweet on the Twitter platform: The American and British delegates talked about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, but did not talk about the brutal [US-imposed] siege. They talked about destabilizing, but did not talk about the arms sales that are poured over our heads and turn our lives into hell."

Recognizing the progress gained with the maintenance of the truce after its expiration, Joyce Msuya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, told delegates that another improvement has been a 2 million drop in the number of people going hungry in Yemen.

Yet, humanitarian agencies too often lack the resources needed to deliver help.  Access and security remain major challenges, funding is in short supply and economic problems are pushing even more people into destitution.  In 2022, aid agencies assisted nearly 11 million people every month.

Recalling the Secretary-General’s participation in a recent joint pledging event for Yemen with the Governments of Sweden and Switzerland, she said more than 30 donors promised $1.16 billion for humanitarian action.  Yet, that is not nearly enough for aid operations to last through the end of 2023.  She also expressed concern over the need for more support to strengthen Yemen’s economy.  Economic decline is among the top drivers of humanitarian needs, and aid agencies want to do much more to help Yemenis move beyond the immediate crisis.

While trying to collect more money but not for ending Yemen’s crisis, the United Nations announced it failed to collect more money this year to fund its response plan in Yemen.

After it presented the suffering of the Yemenis in “public auctions” through the donors’ conference that it organized on Monday in Geneva, in the presence of its Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the participation of twenty countries that were not including Saudi Arabia.

Guterres had warned, during his speech at the opening of the donors' conference, of the dangers of the collapse of the truce, which he said would cause starvation for more than two million people, and stressed that the "international community" had the ability to quickly disburse funds to help Yemen, describing the required aid as " A temporary bandage, not a cure for the humanitarian crisis.”

The UN pretends to be keen while it exploited the crisis in Yemen to collect money to use for its work in Yemen, not to help Yemeni People. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health declared that the lives of kidney failure patients are in danger, while the World Health Organization ignored it.

Al-Masirah obtained correspondence between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, revealing the UN'S renunciation of its responsibility towards patients with kidney failure, after a year of official requests to provide the patients' medical needs.

The correspondence showed that the World Health Organization ordered the Ministry of Health in Sana'a to search for local funding, after a year of waiting and the stock of dialysis centers had run out.

In another letter to the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health expressed its shock and described the timing of its response as late and disavowing responsibility towards patients with kidney failure.
