News - Middle East: Iran has criticized the silence of the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights and European ambassadors on a terrorist attack in southeast Iran that killed five border guards.

"Why is there no sign of the self-proclaimed advocates of human rights and [those who claim to be] fighting against terrorism," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani said in a post on his Twitter account on Monday.

He also slammed European ambassadors in Tehran for refraining from sending a "united message" regarding the martyrdom of the Iranian border guards by terrorists.

The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that the Islamic Republic has been fighting terrorism and drug trafficking for years thanks to the sacrifice of its generals and soldiers.

Kan'ani also paid tribute to the five border guards who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan on Saturday.

The fatalities occurred in the Maze-Sar area of the border region of Saravan, located near Pakistan, as the Iranian border security forces engaged in a fierce confrontation with the terrorists.

The attack was carried out by “a terrorist group which intended to infiltrate the country’s border” but “fled to the other side of the border after the confrontation.”

In a statement on Sunday, Kan'ani said the "cowardly act of terror" undermined the security and interests of Iran and Pakistan, urging Islamabad to honor bilateral counterterrorism agreements to enhance security on the border.
