The Saudi moves to abort the UAE plan in Hadramout seemed clear by summoning the head of the STC, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, and his deputy, Faraj Al-Bahsani. It cut off their participation in the meetings of the “National Assembly of the STC held in Mukalla before it concluded its work. It also transferred them to Riyadh via a private plane, in light of expectations that they would be detained in Riyadh, and prevented from returning to Mukalla to participate in the association's meetings.
It seems that Saudi Arabia is insisting on ending the presence of the STC in the province, especially as it excluded it from the negotiations taking place in Riyadh “to form the delegation of Hadramout in the negotiating delegation” and its share in the government and resources. The meeting is chaired by the Governor of Hadramout, Mabkhout bin Madi, and Amr bin Habrish, the first deputy governor of the governorate, with the participation of about 40 political and social figures and senior Hadhramaut personalities.
According to observers, Bin Habrish's speech during the opening speech of the meetings confirms that Saudi Arabia has resolved the issue of ending the STC in Hadramout. He said in his speech that, "Hadramout will only be represented by its sons," naming the Hadhramaut Inclusive Conference that he chairs and the reference of the tribal alliance as the forces representing the oil province.
According to observers, Saudi Arabia summoned Al-Zubaidi and Al-Bahsani to Riyadh comes within the framework of subjugating Al-Zubaidi. Especially since this summons coincided with a Saudi threat to impose international sanctions on him in case he insisted on escalation in Hadramout.
Saudi Arabia sees the UAE, its partner in the war on Yemen, as a competitor in the province, which it seeks to control and acquire as part of its own agenda. That is why it seeks to remove the UAE from this province, which represents a strategic target in Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen.
