“The number of Yemenis suffering from acute malnutrition is expected to increase during June-December 2023, with Yemen remaining one of the most food-insecure countries in the world,” UNICEF said, in a report.
The report confirmed that the areas most at risk of exacerbation of acute malnutrition are concentrated in “Abyan, Shabwa, Taiz, Al-Dhale’e, Lahj, and southern Hodeidah, which are under the control of the US-Saudi aggression.”
The report indicated that there was a decrease in the level of food insecurity this year compared to 2022, but there are people facing severe acute food insecurity that is still very high and raises great concern for the majority of the population in the southern governorates.
For its part, the Economic Committee in Sana'a confirmed that the deterioration of the economic and living situation in occupied regions is a result of what US-Saudi aggression has been doing for more than eight years.
The committee indicated in a statement that the deterioration and collapse of the national currency is the result of planned action by US-Saudi aggression.
The statement noted that the US-Saudi aggression is still plundering the proceeds of sovereign wealth and refusing to use it to alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen. The statement held the US-Saudi aggression to be fully responsible for the suffering of the Yemeni People since the start of the aggression, siege and economic war on Yemen.
Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.
The US-Saudi aggression continues to target neighborhoods and populated areas and destroy the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.
The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.
