The Iraqi resistance said in a late Sunday statement that the US military base near Syria’s al-Khazra village was hit with a barrage of missiles.
The statement added that the resistance forces also carried out a drone attack on the American forces based in Ain al-Asad Airbase in the western Iraqi province of al-Anbar.
The retaliatory attacks came after an earlier statement by the Iraqi resistance said five of its fighters had been killed in a US airstrike on their base in northern Iraq.
The statement noted that the fighters had lost their lives in the war against the United States, reaffirming the determination of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq to continue its anti-American operations until all occupying forces leave the country.
Hours later, a US military official speaking on condition of anonymity was quoted by AFP as confirming the US airstrike against the positions of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq.
The official claimed that the attack targeted “a drone staging site” in the vicinity of the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.
During the past two months, attacks on the US interests have increased across Iraq amid rising anti-American sentiments over Washington’s unconditional support for the Israeli regime's ongoing war of genocide against the besieged Gaza Strip.
Earlier on Sunday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for striking al-Harir Airbase, a military outpost in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region where US military forces and trainers are stationed.
The Iraqi resistance said in its statement that an explosive-laden drone had directly struck the designated target and destroyed it.
On November 19 and 22, the resistance groups announced that they had carried out drone attacks against the same base, which is situated 45 kilometers (27.9 miles) north of the Erbil International Airport.
And on November 15, a barrage of rockets fired by the Iraqi resistance fighters targeted Ain al-Asad Airbase, which houses US occupation forces.
