Abdulsalam: US Designation of Yemenis as 'Terrorists' Will Not Deter Sana'a from Supporting Palestinians

News - Yemen: The official spokesperson for Ansarullah and head of the National Delegation, Mohammed Abdulsalam, has affirmed that the United States designation of Ansarullah as "terrorists" will not deter their steadfast support for the Palestinians.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Wednesday, Abdulsalam stated that the US is using the designation of Ansarullah as a terrorist organization for political purposes.

He added that the actions of the Yemeni Armed Forces in the Red Sea are a form of pressure to stop the aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Abdulsalam stressed that the US decision regarding the designation has no effectiveness on the ground, stating, "We will not back down from our supportive stance towards the Palestinian people."

He emphasized that the recent US decision will only strengthen Yemenis' commitment to supporting the Palestinians.

Regarding Washington's talk about cutting off Iranian supply lines, Mohammed Abdulsalam stated that there are no Iranian supply lines to Yemen, and the rumors about that are untrue.

The US has put Yemen's Ansarullah back on a list of "terrorist" entities, accusing them of repeated attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea.

“In response to these continuing threats and attacks, the United States announced the designation of Ansarallah, also known as the Houthis, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist,” White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a statement.

Officials said the move means Ansarullah will be hit by sanctions.

Senior American officials told Western media that the designation would take effect in 30 days and that it could also be reversed if Yemenis cease their attacks.

As part of their support for Palestinians, Yemen's Armed Forces have over the past month targeted several ships owned by Israel or bound for ports in the occupied territories, in the strategic Red Sea after multiple warnings.

Yemen says the measure is meant to help bring a halt to the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza, which has so far killed over 24,000 people, mostly women and children.

However, the US and its allies have portrayed Yemen’s attack as a threat to international peace.
