The protest being held on Saturday marks eight months since the Israeli regime launched a genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
Organizers of the demonstration say the protesters are wearing red as a symbol to signify a red line, after US President Joe Biden caved on his “red line” warning to Israeli officials against in Israeli invasion of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Biden, who is presently in France, has been interrupted during various events by pro-Palestinian protesters. The US president has also lost more than half a million voters to the “uncommitted” movement in this year’s Democratic primaries, underscoring his own party loss due to the mishandling of the war.
On May 8, Biden said, “I made it clear that if they [Israelis] go into Rafah—they haven’t gone in Rafah yet—if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities.”
Yet despite the growing outrage, Biden reneged on his promise as Israeli forces attacked Rafah from air, land and sea.
Numerous pro-Palestinian protests have been staged across the country and beyond over Washington’s role in the war.
Rafah, which borders Egypt, has turned into a huge refugee camp where the Palestinians seek safety from Israelis.
Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7 last year, using US-made weapons and munitions supplied by the US government.
So far, the war has killed at least 36,731 people, mostly women and children, and injured 83,530 others in Gaza.
