The two diplomats held talks in the capital Tehran on Sunday to discuss the recent spike in tensions in the region as well as bilateral relations.
Safadi, who arrived in Tehran earlier on Sunday, is also scheduled to meet and exchange views with other Iranian officials on regional and international issues during his trip.
Bagheri Kani emphasized the principled position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in developing close ties with neighboring and Muslim countries.
He underscored the emphasis put by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on the continuation of this approach in Iran's foreign policy.
Bagheri Kani further stressed that the enemies of the Muslim world are trying to turn differences into disputes and disputes into conflicts in the region and that Iran is striving to counter them by pursuing a policy of good neighborliness with utmost seriousness.
“The assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, who was a religious thinker, Quran memorizer, prominent politician of the Arab world, a great Palestinian figure and a great leader of the Islamic resistance, is an act against all standards of international law and custom,” he said.
He added that the assassination was an act against regional and international security and stability, “as well as a violation of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic.”
He stated that all this requires a decisive response to this crime.
Bagheri Kani denounced Western countries, led by the United States and some European governments, over their support for the crimes of the Israeli regime, and for preventing the issuance of even a single statement in the UN Security Council condemning the terrorist crime of the Tel Aviv regime.
He said that "the criminal gang in Tel Aviv" is continuing and intensifying the aggression with the support of the United States and some European states.
Bagheri Kani referred to the long history of the Zionist regime in resorting to aggression and terrorism against the Palestinian resistance leaders in other countries.
“Israel must receive a firm and tough response so that it knows that brutality has a heavy cost,” he emphasized.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement earlier in the day that Safadi will also deliver a message from King Abdullah II to the Iranian president on “the situation in the region and bilateral relations.”
The Jordanian foreign minister’s rare visit comes a day after he held two phone calls with his Iranian and Egyptian counterparts about the consequences of the Israeli regime’s assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Bagheri Kani has written in a post on his X account that during the phone calls, the three foreign ministers exchanged views on the process of developments in the region, noting that they “emphasized the continuation of consultation between the countries of the region."
He went on to say that the situation in the West Asian region is very sensitive due to the continuation of the crimes and dangerous adventures of the Israeli regime.
"The Muslim countries of the region should prevent the continuation of the genocide in Gaza and the expansion of the aggression of the Zionist regime in the region by adopting a unified and decisive position and coordinated actions. Iran's determination to hold the regime accountable is serious," Bagheri Kani said.
Haniyeh, who was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s newly-elected President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside other Axis of Resistance leaders, was martyred along with his bodyguard, in an attack early on July 31. He had resided in Doha along with other members of the Hamas political office.
Haniyeh was a key negotiator of Hamas in Gaza ceasefire talks mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
Ayatollah Khamenei has warned the Israeli regime of a “harsh response” for Haniyeh’s assassination, calling it the Islamic Republic’s duty to avenge the Palestinian resistance leader’s blood.
