European Frigate Intervenes in Attack on Greek Ship in Red Sea, Then Flees

News - Yemen: A European frigate attempted to intercept an attack on the Greek ship SOUNION in the Red Sea before fleeing the scene, a source within the Yemeni naval forces reported.

The source explained that the frigate initially intercepted the first attacking boat, causing the attackers to redirect their assault towards the frigate. Subsequently, a second boat targeted the frigate.

Realizing that the attack was focused on them, the frigate's crew decided to flee, taking the crew of the SOUNION with them.

The Yemeni navy reiterated its warning to ships against tampering with identification systems, as this increases their vulnerability to targeting. They emphasized that ships can still be identified and targeted regardless of whether their identification systems are on or off, assuring that other vessels can safely navigate within their operational area.

The navy also confirmed its commitment to enhancing its capabilities to support Gaza, the Palestinian people, and to defend against US-British aggression.

On Thursday, the Yemeni Armed Forces announced the targeting of the oil tanker Sounion, associated with the Israeli enemy, striking it precisely while it was sailing in the Red Sea, putting it at risk of sinking.

Brigadier General Yahya Sare'e, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, confirmed that the attack involved warboats, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. He further stated that the Yemeni Armed Forces will continue to impose a blockade on the Israeli enemy and target all ships connected to or working with it.

Later, the Yemeni Armed Forces released footage showing the Sounion ship ablaze, with massive flames engulfing the vessel. This action was a response to the ship's owner's violation of the ban on accessing the ports of occupied Palestine.
