Iran Condemns 'Unlawful' US, UK Airstrikes on Yemen

News - Yemen: Iran has condemned in the strongest terms the latest round of joint airstrikes by American and British forces against targets in Yemen, stating that the aerial attacks are in flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday held the UK and US accountable for such infringements of international laws.

“Repeated military aggression by the United States and Britain against Yemen constitutes a blatant infringement of the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.

“The attacking parties bear international accountability for such unlawful acts that run counter to the UN Charter,” he wrote.

Baghaei said Israel and its expansionist policy is destabilizing the region.

“The Zionist regime’s ongoing occupation, warmongering policies, and expansionism are the main reasons behind insecurity and instability in West Asia,” he added.

He stressed the need for the cessation of Israel’s bloody aggression against Lebanon and the genocidal war in Gaza as the prerequisite for the restoration of peace and stability in the region.

The Iranian diplomat said the actions of the Yemeni people and other Muslim nations in the region are in retaliation for the Zionist regime’s atrocities against Palestinians, Lebanese people, and Syrians.

Baghaei explained that these solidarity operations are a natural response to the massacre of their Palestinian and Lebanese brothers and sisters.

He reiterated that the illegal use of force by the US and its allies against the Yemeni nation will not undermine their determination to defend the peoples of Palestine and Lebanon.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported on Friday that the US and UK had carried out 18 airstrikes on several regions in the country, including the national capital of Sana’a, and the provinces of Dhamar, al-Bayda, and Hudaydah.

The channel said four strikes targeted the al-Sayanah area in the Ath’thaorah district of Sana’a. Seven attacks also hit Hudaydah International Airport and the Al-Khatib area in the strategically important western province of Hudaydah.

Additionally, an airstrike hit the southern part of Dhamar, located approximately 100 kilometers (60 miles) south of Sana’a.

Al-Masirah later announced another three joint US-UK strikes against the Jabanah area in Hudaydah, but did not give further details.

Yemenis have declared their open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity.

It has been carrying out a series of strategic operations against Israeli interests, both in the Yemeni waters and inside the occupied territories, impacting Israel’s economy and so-called security.

The Yemeni Armed Forces have said they will not stop their operations until unrelenting Israeli ground and aerial offensives in Gaza end.

So far, Israel has killed at least 41,825 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 96,910 others in Gaza.

Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement, has said it is “a great honor and blessing to confront America directly.”
