In a recent interview with Al-Masirah, Ambassador Sabri highlighted the crucial role that Yemen has played within the Axis of Resistance, especially in military support for Palestine. He pointed to key achievements by the Yemeni Armed Forces, including strategic victories at sea that have significantly impacted Israel's economic infrastructure. One of these victories was the closure and bankruptcy of Israel’s Eilat port, coupled with missile strikes, including the Palestine 2 hypersonic missile, which targeted deep into Israeli territory.
He further praised the massive weekly demonstrations across Yemen in solidarity with Palestine and the leadership's continued military backing for the Palestinian resistance. Sabri stressed that Yemen has become a key player in the region, and its strategic importance is now impossible to overlook.
Strategic Importance of the "Al-Aqsa Storm"
Reflecting on the broader Arab-Israeli conflict, Ambassador Sabri described the "Al-Aqsa Storm" operation as a major turning point, stating, “It ended the efforts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and struck directly at Israel’s core deterrent power.” The operation, according to Sabri, has helped draw a clear line between two opposing projects: one that resists in support of Palestine, and another that has compromised Palestinian rights for Western hegemony.
He credited Yemen’s leadership under Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi for choosing the path of resistance, motivated by religious, moral, and humanitarian obligations. He noted that Yemen’s military contributions, particularly in missile and drone operations, have had a significant impact on Israel’s security and economy.
The Assassination of Resistance Leaders and Iran's Response
Addressing the recent assassination of several key leaders in the resistance, including Hezbollah’s Secretary GeneralSayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Sabri criticized Israel’s actions, backed by American and Western support. He noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underestimated the unity and strength of the Resistance Axis, which extends from Gaza to Tehran.
Sabri emphasized that Iran’s response to the assassination was swift and devastating, with a missile barrage that marked the largest and most severe attack Israel has ever faced. This restored the balance of deterrence, according to Sabri, and was quickly followed by military operations from Hezbollah, as well as contributions from Yemen, Iraq, and Gaza.
Potential for Escalation or Settlement
Looking ahead, Sabri warned that the confrontation with Israel could escalate further, depending on Israel’s response to Iran’s recent retaliation. He cautioned that any large-scale military blunder by Israel could trigger a full-scale regional war. However, he suggested that if Israel opts for a more measured response, a ceasefire could be reached in Gaza and Lebanon, opening the door for further negotiations.
Sabri also pointed to factors that could complicate the situation, including the upcoming U.S. presidential election and Netanyahu’s internal political struggles. He noted that Israel’s leadership may seek to delay any resolution until these issues are resolved.
U.S. Involvement and the Use of American Weapons
Ambassador Sabri condemned the role of the U.S. in supplying Israel with advanced weaponry, including the 2,000-pound bombs used in the assassination of Hezbollah leaders. He stressed that the U.S. has been a full partner in Israel’s actions, both in terms of military support and in providing political and media cover.
“This is not new,” Sabri said. “Israel has long acted with overwhelming force, supported by American weapons and Western political backing. It is part of a broader Western agenda, which was once British but has now become an American project since World War II.”
Arab Silence and Yemen’s Growing Role
Sabri expressed disappointment at the muted response from most Arab governments, criticizing them for failing to support Palestine politically, morally, or militarily. He pointed out that, in contrast, solidarity movements in Western countries have been more active in demonstrating support for the Palestinian cause.
Looking to the future, Sabri highlighted Yemen’s increasingly influential role within the region. He noted that Yemen’s strategic control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, coupled with its growing military capabilities, has made it a central player in the Axis of Resistance.
Yemeni-Saudi Negotiations and the Future of the Conflict
Discussing the status of negotiations between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, Sabri acknowledged that talks had stalled, partly due to U.S. interference and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, he warned that the current “no war, no peace” situation would not last indefinitely. President Mahdi al-Mashat had made it clear that Yemen’s patience with the economic blockade and salary delays was running out, and Yemen may be forced to take military action if its demands are not met.
Sabri concluded by emphasizing that the future of Yemen’s role in the region depends on the next steps taken by Saudi Arabia. He called for a political settlement that would guarantee Yemen’s rights and open the path for a broader national dialogue to shape the country’s future.
Earlier, the Leader of the Revolution Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi reaffirmed Yemen's commitment to the Battle of the Promised Conquest and the Holy Jihad with full strength, charting an escalating path leading to advanced stages of confrontation against the criminal Zionist enemy and in support of the oppressed Palestinian people.
In his speech on the anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Storm operation, Sayyed Abdulmalik addressed the heroic historical achievements of the past year that brought the nation’s cause back to the forefront.
He clarified that Yemen has launched over 1,000 missiles and drones over the past year and has also utilized boats at sea. The Armed Forces targeted 193 ships associated with the Israeli enemy and those connected to American and British forces.
The Leader pointed out that the Armed Forces have shot down 11 American MQ-9 armed drones.
Sayyed Abdulmalik reiterated that Yemen's military front continues to develop capabilities, and strive for greater achievements, adding that the Zionist enemy continues to face painful operations that will hasten its demise.
