News - Yemen: Yemen’s Government has expressed its heartfelt congratulations to the leadership and members of Hezbollah following the election of Sheikh Naeem Qassem as Secretary-General of the party.

In an official statement, the government commended Hezbollah's pivotal role in defending just Arab and Islamic causes, emphasizing the party's commitment to confronting the Israeli enemy. "We appreciate and value the crucial efforts of Hezbollah in the ongoing struggle for justice and peace in the region," the statement read.

The government further asserted that Sheikh Qassem's election bolsters the party's trajectory and provides it with renewed momentum to tackle the challenges and threats facing Lebanon, Palestine, and the surrounding communities.

"We express our complete confidence that the new leadership will continue the jihadist path of the martyr of Muslims and humanity, the great leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah—may God's mercy be upon him—with determination, patience, and steadfastness," the statement concluded.

On Tuesday, Hezbollah's Shura Council, the group's central decision-making body, appointed Sheikh Qassem as the group’s secretary-general.

The 60-year-old cleric is a veteran figure in Hezbollah, having served as deputy secretary general of the Lebanese resistance group since 1991.

He was appointed deputy secretary general under Hezbollah’s late secretary general, Abbas al-Musawi, who was killed by an Israeli helicopter attack in 1992, and remained in the role when Nasrallah became leader.

Sheikh Qassem has long been one of the leading spokesmen for Hezbollah, conducting many interviews with foreign media.
