Yemen Unveils Advanced Naval Capabilities: Unmanned Submarines and Cutting-Edge Maritime Weapons

Yemen: Yemen’s Armed Forces possess advanced weapons and military capabilities, especially in the realm of naval weaponry. Some of these capabilities were showcased recently, including offensive technologies that only a few countries worldwide possess—such as Russia, China, and the U.S.

Yemen has developed a variety of tactical and strategic weapons, including sea mines, kamikaze drones, unmanned boats, and a powerful arsenal of land-to-sea missiles. Among these innovations is the “Marching Submarine”—an unmanned submarine developed by Yemeni engineers. This submarine is a vital addition to Yemen’s arsenal, specifically designed to protect maritime sovereignty and counter threats from hostile ships and fleets.

Submarines, in general, are a key component of naval power for many armies. They are one of the most crucial types of weaponry that leading nations continually seek to improve for effectiveness in naval warfare. Various submarine types have been developed over the years, including nuclear, missile-carrying, reconnaissance, and remote-controlled "drone" submarines. These submarines serve either offensive or intelligence-gathering roles.

The Importance of Submarines in Modern Warfare

With the evolution of naval warfare tactics and the shift in strategies to meet current demands, modern technology has led to significant shifts in the balance of power and deterrence. Leading nations have focused on developing new, cost-effective, and impactful military systems, especially with the recent wars in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. This arms race includes hypersonic missiles and various types of drones (aerial, underwater, and surface).

In particular, unmanned submarines play a vital role due to their ability to:

1. Attack and Destroy Enemy Ships and Vessels: Armed with high-speed engines and explosive payloads, unmanned submarines can become precision-guided sea bombs that rival torpedoes in effectiveness.

2. Navigate and Evade Enemy Defense Systems: Their maneuverability allows them to avoid sonar and radar systems above and below water.

3. Low Cost and Ease of Production: Manufacturing these submarines is relatively inexpensive and straightforward, requiring little time or effort.

4. Extended Range and Precision Targeting: Equipped with precise remote-guidance systems, they can reach distant targets on the ocean's surface.

Yemen Joins the Club of Unmanned Submarine Manufacturers

Until recently, the technology for unmanned submarines was limited to leading nations (such as Russia, China, Iran, and the U.S.). Today Yemen has joined this elite group, developing and deploying its models of unmanned submarines. During recent military maneuvers, Yemen’s naval forces unveiled the “Al-Qaari’a” submarine, which has now entered operational service.

The “Al-Qaari’a” is an advanced remote-controlled naval vehicle with capabilities to carry out various operational tasks, especially attacking ships, frigates, and destroyers in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. This technology will, with God's help, create a new operational advantage in confrontation scenarios and will enhance the effectiveness of offensive operations by our Armed Forces, targeting ships belonging to Israeli, American, and British forces.
