Foreign Minister: Sana'a Rejects Turning the UN and Its Organizations into Tools for US Pressure

News - Yemen: Foreign Minister Jamal Amer has reaffirmed Sana'a's willingness to strengthen relations with the United Nations and international organizations, including UN Women, the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

During his meeting on Sunday with UN Women representative Bedina Zourba in Sana'a, Minister Amer emphasized that Sana'a rejects any attempt to use the UN and its agencies as political tools for external pressure, particularly by the United States.

He urged UN Women to develop an action plan focused on economically empowering Yemeni women, who remain among the most affected by the ongoing aggression and blockade. The minister highlighted the importance of initiatives that address the dire humanitarian conditions in Yemen.

In response, Bedina Zourba explained that the UN Women office in Yemen operates strictly within the framework of humanitarian and relief efforts, as part of the UN's broader humanitarian response plan.

After October 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces launched operations in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are enduring a genocidal war waged by Israel.

In response, the US exerted pressure on Yemen to halt its operations against Israel. Together with its allies, it escalated aggression against Yemen, occasionally carrying out strikes on Yemeni governorates.

The US also directed the Saudi regime to escalate economically against the Yemeni people. This included barring flights from Sana’a airport and targeting critical infrastructure such as banks, airports, and ports, crossing previously acknowledged red lines.

Additionally, the United Nations Security Council has acted as an extension of American foreign policy, issuing resolutions aligned with US interests. It condemned Yemeni strikes in the Red Sea without addressing the Zionist entity’s crimes and genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza—the very catalyst for Yemen’s actions against ships headed to Israeli-occupied ports in the Red Sea.
