Top Iranian Parliamentarian Warns of Israel’s Continued Violation of Lebanon Ceasefire

News - Middle East: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned of attempts by the Israeli regime to turn its violations of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon into a normal occurrence.

“It is necessary to be cautious that their (Israel's) violation of this agreement should not turn into a routine matter,” Qalibaf said in a phone conversation with Lebanese Parliament speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday.

Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah after suffering heavy losses following more than 14 months of fighting and failing to achieve its goals in its aggression on Lebanon.

The truce agreement, brokered by the United States and France, came into effect before dawn on Wednesday. It will last for 60 days in the hope of reaching a permanent cessation of hostilities.

At least 3,961 people were killed and more than 16,520 others injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that an Israeli strike on the village of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon has left at least three people injured, including a child, despite the ceasefire agreement.

Qalibaf expressed satisfaction with the cessation of Israel’s war in Lebanon and hailed his Lebanese counterpart for his "very important and effective" role in the achievement of the ceasefire under those difficult circumstances.

He once again reaffirmed Iran’s fixed stance on Lebanon, saying, “The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the Lebanese government, parliament, people and resistance, as well as their decisions.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian Parliament speaker warned that the recent attacks by Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria are aimed at securing the Israeli regime’s objectives.

Under the current circumstances, he said, it is imperative to manage the situation in the West Asia region with “seriousness and coordination.”

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its allied terrorist factions advanced into sections of Syria’s second-largest city of Aleppo on Friday, seizing areas including al-Hamdaniyah, al-Furqan, and al-Zahraa after two days of heavy clashes, according to local sources. However, Syrian forces quickly launched counter-operations to repel them.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based monitor, said Russian warplanes had launched raids on areas of Aleppo city for the first time since 2016 to stop terrorist advances.

The Lebanese parliament speaker, for his part, praised Iran's unwavering assistance to his country.

With Iran's help, Berri said, Lebanon has managed to confront a “brutal predator” called Israel, which sought to “swallow” the entire region.

He added that areas in southern Lebanon, including Beqaa and Dahiyeh, are currently in a good situation.

He noted that some 1.3 million Lebanese refugees are returning home.
