These airstrikes resulted in the death of 29 people, including women and children—one of whom was pregnant—and left dozens injured. The bombings disrupted public peace, caused severe material losses, displaced families, and inflicted lasting grief and hardship on already struggling communities. Below are the key details from the tragic events spanning those years:
2015: Airstrikes on Al-Hamzat Market in Sa'adah
On December 4, 2015, US-Saudi aggression added a new war crime to its record. It launched direct airstrikes on civilian shops and properties in Al-Hamzat Market, Sa'adah, leaving one martyr and one injured. What was once a bustling commercial hub became a pile of rubble soaked with blood.
Before the attack, these shops were a lifeline for the community, providing sustenance for the local residents. In mere moments, the aggression’s warplanes reduced them to ashes. Lives, dreams, and livelihoods were buried under the rubble.
2016: Eight Civilian Casualties in Dual Strikes on Sa'adah
In 2016, the aggression committed simultaneous war crimes in Sa'adah, using cluster bombs and missiles that targeted civilian homes. These attacks killed three women—one of them pregnant—and left five others injured, including children.
In Baqim District, cluster bombs destroyed homes, killed livestock, and displaced families. One of the victims was a pregnant woman who had been preparing to welcome her baby. The aggression’s airstrikes brutally extinguished her dreams of motherhood.
Another attack in Razih District killed a young girl and injured her parents and sister, leaving their home in ruins.
2017: 34 Casualties in Airstrikes on Sana’a
On December 4, 2017, the aggression conducted two major airstrikes in Sana’a, targeting the Nadh Market and the historic Republican Palace.
The Nadh Market attack claimed the lives of 25 civilians and injured nine others, turning the bustling market into a scene of destruction and death. Meanwhile, airstrikes on the Republican Palace—a historic architectural gem—damaged a significant part of Yemen’s cultural heritage.
2021: Destruction in Sana’a’s Al-Anab Neighborhood
On December 4, 2021, the aggression targeted Al-Anab neighborhood in Sana’a with nighttime airstrikes, hitting food warehouses, workshops, and residential homes. Dozens were injured, families were displaced, and properties worth millions were destroyed.
Over nine years, these December 4 airstrikes serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing crimes committed by the US-Saudi aggression against Yemen. The deliberate targeting of civilians, infrastructure, and cultural heritage represents clear violations of international humanitarian law.
The Yemeni people remain resilient, determined to defend their land, dignity, and unity. The international community must take urgent action to end the aggression and hold its perpetrators accountable for the atrocities inflicted on Yemen.
