Entesaf Organization Condemns Decade of US-Saudi Human Rights Violations in Yemen

News - Yemen: On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Entesaf Organization for Women and Children's Rights issued a statement condemning the severe human rights violations in Yemen, perpetrated by the forces of aggression over the past ten years.

The organization emphasized in its statement that human rights are universal and indivisible, and the grave violations experienced by the Yemeni people constitute a blatant breach of international law and humanitarian principles.

The statement revealed that over the last decade, direct attacks by the U.S.-Saudi coalition have resulted in 14,807 casualties among women and children, including 9,248 child victims. These include 4,136 fatalities and 5,112 injuries. Among women, there have been 5,559 casualties, comprising 2,492 fatalities and 3,067 injuries.

It noted that US-Saudi airstrikes have involved 2,932 cluster bomb attacks, deploying over 3,187,630 munitions. These attacks have led to approximately 9,000 civilian casualties, mostly women and children.

The statement also highlighted more than 800 crimes against women and children on the western coast, including abductions and assaults. The aggression has increased gender-based violence among children by 63% compared to pre-conflict levels. The number of displaced people has risen to 6.4 million across 740,122 families, with half consisting of women and children. Additionally, one in three displaced families is headed by women.

The organization reported that the number of disabled individuals in Yemen has risen to 4.9 million, equivalent to 15% of the population. Over 185 to 350 centers, associations, and institutes specialized in aiding disabled individuals have shut down, out of 450 total facilities, including 30 in the southern and eastern provinces.

An estimated 250,000 disabled individuals previously enrolled in general education and universities have been forced to abandon their education due to the aggression.

In education, 2.4 million children are out of school due to displacement, destruction of educational infrastructure, and economic conditions. A total of 3,676 schools have been destroyed or damaged. The statement noted that 196,197 teachers have not received regular salaries since 2016 due to the conflict and blockade.

The organization also pointed to the economic impact of the war, which has exacerbated child labor. Approximately 1.6 million children are now forced to work due to economic hardship, with 34.3% of them aged between 5 and 17.

The statement added that 17.8 million people in Yemen require health assistance, while eight million children urgently need access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services to prevent disease outbreaks and save lives.

The Entesaf Organization stressed that the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10 serves as a reminder that human rights are universal, indivisible, and inalienable.

"However," the organization added, "over the past decade, Yemen has endured one of the most heinous acts of aggression in history, under the eyes of a hypocritical world and inhumane organizations that have revealed their ugly face and blatant bias towards war criminals, child killers, and violators of civilian rights. Yemenis continue to be deprived of the most basic rights enjoyed by people in stable countries."

Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.

The US-Saudi aggression targeted neighborhoods and populated areas and destroyed the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.
