Dec. 15 Over 9 Years: 36 Casualties, Widespread Infrastructure Damage in US-Saudi War Crimes on Yemen

Yemen: The US-Saudi aggression, on multiple occasions over the years, has deliberately committed acts of war crimes and genocide, targeting civilians, civilian properties, and infrastructure with brutal airstrikes and cluster munitions. On December 15 in the years 2015, 2016, and 2017, the coalition carried out deadly attacks in Sana’a and Sa'adah provinces, leaving behind a trail of death, destruction, and suffering.

2015: Child Killed in Sa'adah by Airstrikes and Artillery Shelling

On December 15, 2015, the coalition targeted citizens’ properties in the Baqim district with airstrikes, while artillery shelling hit the Ghafira area. The attacks led to the death of a child, damage to properties, and the displacement of families, forcing many to abandon their homes and belongings under heavy bombardment.

2016: Cluster Bombs Strike Infrastructure in Sa'adah

On this day in 2016, the coalition bombed the Namsa Bridge and citizens’ farms in the Al-Jamalah area of Majz district. The attacks caused significant destruction, including obstructing transportation, destroying infrastructure, and terrifying civilians.

2017: 35 Casualties in Three War Crimes in Sa'adah

In 2017, aggression airstrikes and cluster bombs hit a market and civilian homes in the districts of Munabbih, Al-Zahir, and Sahar in Sa'adah. The attacks resulted in 25 fatalities and 10 injuries, widespread destruction of properties, and panic among women, children, and families.

Munabbih District: 29 Casualties in a Market Massacre

The US-Saudi aggression targeted Al-Sheikh Market, killing 23 people and injuring six, including shoppers, first responders, and journalists. The market was repeatedly bombed, with the coalition directly targeting rescuers to ensure no survivors.

Al-Zahir District: Women Killed in Home Bombing

Airstrikes hit the home of Yahya Al-Qaisi, killing two women and injuring a third. The attack also killed livestock and caused panic and displacement among the residents.

Sahar District: Cluster Bombs Maim Children

In Bani Muath, cluster munitions injured three children. These internationally prohibited weapons are designed to delay detonation, disguising themselves as harmless objects that children often mistake for toys.

2021: Coalition Airstrikes Target Vital Infrastructure in Sana’a

In 2021, the coalition bombed Al-Yateem Hospital and the Technical Training Institute in Sana’a, targeting civilian infrastructure. The attacks caused significant damage, terrified residents, and deprived many of essential services.

Over nine years, the coalition’s relentless aggression against Yemen has left tens of thousands of casualties and destroyed essential infrastructure. These deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian objects are war crimes under international law. There is an urgent need for the international community to hold the perpetrators accountable, lift the ongoing blockade, and provide justice and compensation to the victims.
