Sana’a Reaffirms Readiness to Sign Roadmap Amid U.S. Pressure Over Gaza Support

News - Yemen: Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Jamal Ahmed Amer, affirmed that Sana’a’s position is clear and unequivocal regarding its immediate readiness to sign the roadmap, considering it the gateway to initiating the political settlement process in Yemen.

This statement came during his meeting on Tuesday with Mohammed Al-Ghannam, Director of the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, and Dirk Jan Omtzigt, the Economic Advisor at the Office of the UN Envoy.

During the meeting, Minister Amer listened to a briefing by the Economic Advisor regarding the outcomes of his meetings with officials handling the economic file in Sana’a. The discussions were described as constructive, aiming to shift from wishful thinking and rhetoric to agreed-upon practical steps.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the correct starting point for addressing the economic file is to establish clear and agreed-upon criteria and guidelines for the work of the Joint Economic Committee. He stressed the importance of identifying points of disagreement while beginning with areas of agreement, ensuring that the committee's outcomes align with the aspirations of the Yemeni people.

He added that claims of the roadmap being currently frozen are a response to U.S. pressures on Sana’a to halt its support and assistance to Gaza.

“This matter is completely rejected,” Amer stated, adding that there is no connection between the peace process, the signing of the roadmap, and the escalation in the Red Sea. He warned that any pressure in this regard would yield counterproductive results.

For his part, the Director of the Office of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen in Sana’a, Al-Ghannam, affirmed that the roadmap remains the agreed-upon channel for advancing the peace process in Yemen.

Meanwhile, the Senior Economic Advisor at the UN Envoy's Office indicated that the discussions he held in Sana’a were positive.
