News - Middle East: The United States has threatened to impose fines of up to $2.3 million per trip on Spain for its decision to block ships carrying American weapons to the Israeli occupation.

According to a report by the Associated Press, the US has launched an investigation into whether Spain, a NATO ally, is preventing cargo ships carrying American arms from reaching Israel through its ports.

The move follows an investigation by the Palestinian Youth Movement and the International Progressive Organization, which uncovered large shipments of military goods sent by the company "Maersk" to Israel, allegedly in violation of both international and Spanish laws. In response, Spain took decisive action, barring these ships from docking in its ports.

Despite international concerns and calls for restraint, the US has continued to supply military aid to Israel during its offensive in Gaza. Since October 7, this support has included authorizing the transfer of thousands of bombs and other munitions.

Israel launched the war on the coastal sliver on October 7 after Palestinian resistance groups carried out a surprise retaliatory operation into the occupied territories.

Concomitantly with the war, the regime has been enforcing a near-total siege on Gaza, which has reduced the flow of foodstuffs, medicine, electricity, and water into the Palestinian territory into a trickle.

So far during the military onslaught, the regime has killed more than 45,227 Gazans, most of them women, children, and adolescents.
