Jan. 20 Over 9 Years: 31 Casualties in US-Saudi Aggression Airstrikes in Yemen

Yemen: On January 20 of the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022, the US-Saudi coalition deliberately committed war crimes and acts of genocide through brutal airstrikes targeting civilians, civilian structures, infrastructure, public facilities, places of worship, factories, and private properties in various regions of Yemen, including Sa'adah, Sana'a, Dhamar, Marib, and Hodeidah.

These airstrikes resulted in nine deaths and 22 injuries, including children and women, and caused widespread destruction, including the leveling of homes, a mosque, a sponge factory, a telecommunications building, and a community hall. Additionally, dozens of families were displaced, victims’ livelihoods were devastated, and women and children were left widowed and orphaned. The attacks caused financial losses amounting to millions, robbed dozens of workers of their income, and inflicted widespread fear, horror, and devastation, leaving clear evidence of the coalition's deliberate policy of destruction and annihilation in Yemen. These acts constitute war crimes that demand accountability from international bodies like the United Nations, the International Criminal Court, and the International Court of Justice.

Key Incidents:

2016: 14 Airstrikes on Homes and a Community Hall in Sana'a

The coalition's airstrikes targeted several homes and a community hall in the Rajam area of Bani Hushaysh District, Sana'a. The attack caused widespread destruction, terrified residents, displaced dozens of families, and deepened the humanitarian crisis.

2017: Homes, Properties, and a Mosque Bombed in Marib

In Sirwah District, Marib, the coalition bombed a home and a nearby mosque, leaving destruction and fear in its wake. The mosque, once a place of prayer and tranquility, was reduced to ruins, with sacred texts torn apart.

2018: Two Killed, Three Injured in Sa'adah

In Sa'adah, two civilians—a recently married couple—were killed in their home in Ghamar, while another home in Bani Mu'een was bombed, injuring a man, a woman, and a child. The attacks prompted families to flee their homes in terror.

2019: Sponge Factory Bombed in Sana'a

A sponge factory in Bani al-Harith District, Sana'a, was targeted, resulting in two deaths, injuries to others, and extensive damage to neighboring homes. Displaced families lost their livelihoods, while the attack caused financial losses in the millions.

2022: Massacre at a Communications Building in Hodeidah

The coalition bombed the International Internet Gateway in Hodeidah, killing four and injuring 17, including women and children. The attack destroyed homes and displaced families, cutting off essential communication services.

2022: Passenger Bus Bombed in Dhamar

In Dhamar, the coalition targeted a civilian bus, leaving behind charred wreckage and more casualties.

Over nine years, January 20 stands as a grim reminder of the coalition's unrelenting war crimes in Yemen. The international community must act urgently to end the aggression, lift the siege, and hold perpetrators accountable. Families of victims, and all those who value justice, ask: When will justice be served? When will the world hear Yemen's cry for help?
