Yemen Condemns US Warship Attacks on Yemeni Fishermen in Territorial Waters

News - Yemen: Yemen's Ministry of Fish Wealth strongly denounced the aggressive actions and violations carried out by American warships against fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry expressed deep concern over the serious injury sustained by fisherman Hisham Abbas Qubsa, a resident of Al-Khokha district in Houdeidah, who was shot by an American warship in the Red Sea while fishing west of Hanish Al-Kabir Island.

The Ministry condemned this aggressive act against Qubsa as a blatant violation of human rights and international laws. It sees it as part of the ongoing aggression and brutal crimes committed by the American enemy, the aggression forces, and mercenaries against Yemeni fishermen since the start of the aggression against Yemen.

The Ministry of Fish Wealth called for an immediate halt to these violations and for those responsible to be held accountable. It expressed full solidarity with fisherman Hisham Abbas Qubsa and all Yemeni fishermen.

The statement highlighted the challenging conditions faced by Yemeni fishermen due to the war and blockade. Despite the hardships, they continue their noble work in the face of adversity.

Appealing to the international community and human rights organizations, the Ministry urged urgent intervention to stop these violations and safeguard Yemeni fishermen from imminent threats resulting from the militarization of Yemeni territorial waters. It criticized the global silence in the face of the injustice suffered by these fishermen in Yemeni waters.

Warning against the dangers of ongoing violations targeting territorial waters, marine ecosystems, and Yemeni fishermen, the Ministry stressed the importance of respecting their rights, safety, and protection from future attacks. It called on everyone to stand in solidarity with Yemeni fishermen and support their cause.

Saudi Arabia and its allies have been engaged in a war on Yemen since 2015 to reinstate power to the country’s Riyadh-friendly former officials. The ongoing war and simultaneous siege enforced by the US-Saudi-led coalition have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Yemenis.

The invasion has pushed entire Yemen close to the brink of outright famine, turning the country into the scene of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Coastal communities in Yemen have suffered greatly in the ongoing bloody war. Fishing boats, ports, and processing sites have been destroyed or damaged, and many fishermen have lost their lives.

The US-Saudi aggression launched airstrikes which hit fishing boats and markets, and mines were laid in the sea making the waters treacherous. To make matters worse, the exacerbation of piracy and attacks by the Eritrean authorities and the aggressive forces against fishermen on the Yemeni coasts.

Moreover, the US-UK aggressive airstrikes on Yemen continue in clear violation of Yemeni sovereignty, as an attempt to deter Yemen from its decision to prevent Israeli ships from passing through the Red Sea in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, who are facing a genocidal war by the savage Zionist entity.

Over the past few months, the US and the UK have carried out numerous air attacks in various regions of Yemen, responding to the country's missile and drone assaults on vessels, either owned by Israel or en route to ports in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The American-British aggression has targeted different areas in Hodeidah with airstrikes, including the targeting of the Ras Isa area in Al-Salif district.
