News - Middle East: Amnesty International called on the Saudi authorities to release Dr. Muhammad Al-Khudary and his son Hani, both Palestinian citizens. Dr. Muhammad works as a representative of Hamas in Riyadh. Thy have been detained in the kingdom’s prisons for over a year. 

The organization criticized the Saudi regime for denying the father and son any medical treatment, their health is in decline due to neglect. Dr. Al-Khudary, 83, did not receive adequate health care, including care for a bladder catheter, which exacerbated the poor conditions of detention.

The organization pointed out that Dr. Al-Khudary underwent surgery, and was being treated for prostate cancer, when the Saudi authorities arbitrarily arrested him, along with his son Dr. Hani Al-Khudary, on April 4, 2019. It added that, one year later, he was brought before the Specialized Criminal Court in a group trial that was marred by serious violations.

Amnesty International addressed the letter to Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz, calling on him to ensure that the baseless charges against Dr. Muhammad Al-Khudary and Dr. Hani Al-Khudary are dropped. The letter stressed the need to release the father and his son.

The organization also stressed the need to urgently transfer Dr. Muhammad Al-Khudary to a hospital where he is able to receive the urgent specialized medical care he needs, before completing the procedures for his release.
