A statement issued by Yemen TV considered that the US government’s seizure of Almasirah Net website without any justification or even prior notice is a blatant violation of the freedom of opinion guaranteed in international laws. “It exposes once again the falsehood of the slogans of freedom of expression and all the other headlines that the US promotes."
The Yemeni Media Union also indicated that the US ban on Almasirah Net website falls within the context of the aggressive war on Yemen, which was accompanied by a systematic and focused targeting of the Yemeni media. “Yemeni media was bombed, targeted and blocked, with the aim of concealing the war crimes committed by the US and its aggressive coalition for six years and sought to prevent the truth from reaching public opinion,” the Union added.
The Geneva Journalists' Support Committee (JSC) called on the violating parties to immediately retract their decision to ban Almasirah Net website, due to the legal and journalistic assault that prevents citizens from accessing information from its sources. “The US ban deprived media persons and journalists of their right to report facts and events to prevent the blackout that is criminalized by international conventions, guarantee freedom of opinion and expression for everyone, as well as imposing the protection of media and media professionals during conflict situations,” the JSC added.
Sam FM radio said that the US step confirms to us more and more "the correctness of our continuation as resistance media in raising the slogan (Death to America) and giving it priority before any other slogans to be adopted by the media and at all levels."
Afaq FM radio announced its solidarity with the sites and channels of the axis of resistance and the free media, to stand by them in one trench until victory. It called on the media to stand in solidarity with the channels targeted by the US and to condemn and denounce this unjust repressive step.
The Yemeni News Agency (Saba) called on the press and media unions to condemn and reject this aggressive act that exposes the falseness of the US slogans of democracy and freedom of opinion and expression.
Ansarullah's media center considered that the restrictions on Almasirah and the media of the resistance axis reveal the weakness of the US and its allies, despite their possession of the largest media arsenal in the world in front of the force of truth.
Socialists Against Aggression bloc called on the international community to pressure the US administration to apologize to Yemen and regional news outlets that are exposed to American piracy, especially Almasirah network.
In what seems to be a coordinated action, a similar message has appeared on the websites of Almasirah Media Network and a series of regional television networks that claims their domains have been “seized by the United States Government.”
The notice, which appeared late Tuesday on the website of Arabic and English-language television news network Almasirah as well as a number of other Iranian and regional news channels, cited US sanctions laws for the seizure and was accompanied by the seal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Commerce.
"The domain almasirah.com has been seized by the United States Government in accordance with a seizure warrant...as part of a law enforcement action by the Bureau of Industry and Security, Office of Export Enforcement and Federal Bureau of Investigation," the message read.
The websites of Iran's English-language Press TV, Arabic-language Al Alam television news network and Bahrain's Lualua television network were also among the targeted outlets.
The US government has not officially commented on the matter, but some reports said the websites might have been hacked.
Almasirah has announced that its website will be available on .com domain.
