Rodriguez made the remarks in a post on his Twitter account on Tuesday, following US President Joe Biden’s speech at the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, during which he highlighted his commitments to multilateral organizations.
"President Biden's administration is making a serious mistake, with consequences for all, in its efforts to split the world between those who submit to it and those who defend their sovereign right to self-determination with dignity," he said.
The Cuban diplomat further noted that the disguised application of former US president Donald Trump’s wrong and dangerous foreign policy makes the current administration responsible for the damage caused to international peace and stability, and its serious consequences.
He also stressed that the greatest threat to the US “is the growing political polarization and extremism within its territory”, adding that for Latin America, it’s "the imposition of the imperialist Monroe Doctrine."
Biden sought to distance himself from his predecessor in his Tuesday speech at the UN, saying the United States is "back at the table in international forums, especially at the United Nations, to focus attention and boost global actions on shared challenges."
He also insisted that new challenges must be tackled with technological innovation and global cooperation, not war.
Rodriguez recently held Washington responsible for five days of unrest in Cuba that led to at least one death and dozens of injuries and more than 100 arrests.
Rodriguez also insisted that Washington was using high-tech digital systems to incite protests in the small island nation close to US southern coast waters.
Back in July, protests erupted against the government of Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel as the country experienced its worst economic crisis in 30 years, with shortages of electricity and food exacerbated by the US embargo. Cuban leaders have held the decades-long US embargo responsible for the economic difficulties of the people.
Washington imposed sanctions against the Cuban police force and two of its leaders after protests in the country in response to what it called the suppression of the demonstrations.
The US sanctions came as Cuba was also experiencing its toughest phase yet of the coronavirus pandemic. The Cuban government has reiterated that the US embargo is impeding its ability to purchase equipment and other supplies to deal with COVID-19.
Rodriguez demanded an end to the long-running “inhuman” US blockade against Havana at the time, insisting that Washington has no reason to maintain its Cold War policies against Cuba.
Biden has not only kept Trump’s maximum pressure campaign on Cuba, but he has also increased the sanctions, saying that this is just the beginning. Several prominent lawmakers in US Congress, specifically Republicans, have also advocated direct intervention in Cuba, even suggesting bombing strikes.
Numerous resolutions by the United Nations General Assembly have indicated that the US blockade of Cuba is against international law.
