Yemen Expect UN to Fulfill Promises Over Allocating Urgent Assistance to Demining

News – Yemen:  It was agreed with the United Nations to allocate one million five hundred thousand dollars as urgent assistance to expedite demining, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs confirmed on Monday.

"We hope, in the coming days, to agree with the United Nations to set priorities to remove mines,"  Abdulmohsen Tawoos told Al-Masirah Channel.

He added that there are many obstacles to the demining process represented in the lack of devices or even detection dogs, pointing out that there are killed from the field teams due to the poor quality of the devices.

Tawoos noted that the report submitted by the National Demining Center has not yet been implemented by the United Nations, expressing his optimism that the United Nations will fulfill its promises and that the delegates from the UNDP will meet with the National Demining Team.

There were multiple bombs used by the US-Saudi aggression on the western coast in Hodeidah, where the aggression conducted field experiments. The National Program for Mine Action had found cluster bombs there that it had not encountered before.

The National Program for Mine Action warned citizens not to approach foreign objects, damaged shells and mines left by the aggression, stressing the need to follow the instructions of the security men during their return to their homes, villages and farms in Hodeidah.

The landmines and other remnants of the US-Saudi mercenaries that they planted during their occupation, still pose a threat to the residents of many areas of the district, especially farms and roads.

On mid of November, the head of the National Committee for Demining Brigadier Ali Safra confirmed that the capabilities of field work in clearing mines is not sufficient for a single street in Hodeidah, stressing that the US-Saudi aggression prevents the entry of modern devices.

He pointed out that the development program canceled all five pillars related to the demining program in Yemen, including the activity of identifying affected areas.

Ali Safra also indicated that the National Committee for Demining addressed humanitarian and international organizations to secure all the requirements of the committee, but it did not receive any response.

Many areas in Yemen's governorates are being bombarded by US-Saudi aggression with cluster bombs, while many of those internationally prohibited bombs are still scattered among farms and roads, and their victims are in the dozens.

In official statistics, 2,500 cluster, destructive, phosphorous and piercing bomb raids targeted nine governorates in the republic, foremost among which were US bombs like the CBU-87, British bombs like the BL755 and the Brazilian ASTROS II bombs.

Each of these weapons has its own properties and high impacts on humans and environment, which remain life threatening for a long period of time. This shows the scale of the disaster that befell Yemen as a result of these US, British and other weapons.

6,280 disabled persons are registered in the Artificial Limb Center records, as a result of direct raids or artillery shells and their remnants, including 100 children and more than 200 women

The number of disabled persons who reached the Limbs Center for physical therapy as a result of the aggression’s bombs is 6280, including those who lost limbs, two upper or lower limbs and some of them have lateral paralysis or partial paralysis in one of the limbs as a result of aerial bombardment or missiles and others.

These numbers showed who went to the center, however a lot did not go and their data have not been recorded.

All these crimes were committed by the US-Saudi Aggression with the participation of the United Nations, which have never condemned such crimes but rather accused the Yemenis of being violators of children’s rights.
