US Investing in Al-Qaeda Again, Aiming at Yemen's Oil, Gas

Yemen:  In parallel with the Western tendency towards restarting the gas and oil companies in Yemen, Al-Qaeda returns to the fore and carries out two kidnappings of UN employees in the areas controlled by the Saudi-led coalition. The timing raises many question marks about the purpose of these operations and the party behind them.

Two operations in less than a month
Less than a month had passed since the kidnapping of five United Nations employees by Al-Qaeda in Abyan governorate on February 12, then the organization, on the 5th of May, kidnapped two MSF employees in Al-Khasha'a area in Al-Qattan District, Hadramout Governorate.

Coinciding with that were the visits of the US envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking and the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Yemen Cathy Westley to Hadramawt and Shabwa, and their meeting with the governors of the two appointed by Hadi governorates Awad Al-Awlaki and Faraj Al-Bahsani. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss restarting the Balhaf gas facility, re-producing and exporting crude oil from Masila and increasing the volume of production and export to compensate for the global deficit that will occur as a result of the repercussions of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Investing in Al-Qaeda
Al-Qaeda’s return to the fore in Yemen with the West’s moves towards exporting gas and oil confirms that there is a scenario prepared by Western countries for these regions by investing in this organization. The US aims to push more of its forces to these areas under the banner of fighting terrorism to be able to tighten its control over the oil and gas sources and exploit it to compensate for part of the Russian oil and gas. The US President announced a ban on importing and working with what he called the European partners to develop a long-term strategy in order to reduce their dependence on Russian energy.

Yemen controls a strategic stock of oil estimated at 11.950 billion barrels, proven and declared, about three billion barrels, a stock that makes the West salivate, especially in light of the crisis that has emerged in Western Europe and the United States.

Yemen's oil and gas is part of the strategy
According to observers, Yemen's oil and gas will be part of this strategy announced by Biden, which was confirmed by the recent visits of the US envoy to Yemen and the charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Yemen to Shabwa and Hadramout.

According to observers, America lacks confidence in its local agents in securing oil and gas supplies from the extraction areas to the liquefaction and export facilities, in addition to the fears of the expansion of Sana’a forces, which are standing at the gates of Marib, to the sources of oil and gas. This will prompt Washington and London to invent justifications to push more of its forces into these areas, including the justification for fighting terrorism to ensure the continuity of gas and oil exports from these areas and to cut off the road for Sana’a forces.

Islah Party mobilizes
It seems that the leaders of the Islah Party are fully aware of the scenario prepared by the West and the return of al-Qaeda, especially in Hadhramaut province, in which Islah militants control the oil areas. They began preparing to eliminate the Salafi groups in these areas, including the Yahya Al-Hajouri group - located in the city of Sayun - on which the Islah militants imposed a military cordon in preparation to attack them after they were accused of trying to carry out a coup against the Islah militants in the oil plateau.

Total is back!
The American moves were preceded by a French move through the Total Company, which accelerated its steps to resume the production and export of liquefied gas from Sector 18 in the Safer area in Marib. It intensified its meeting with the pro-aggression government, in order to restore production as soon as possible to pump it to the European markets, which are experiencing a crisis due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

New chapter of looting
The US-French moves confirm that Yemen stands today in front of a new chapter of looting of its wealth, which will be the largest in its history if this war continues for several years to come.

With the complicity of the pro-aggression government and the indications that confirm its tendency to re-export gas and oil in implementation of American orders, the role of the Sana’a government remains by taking deterrent steps to stop the upcoming looting of Yemeni gas and oil.
