News - Middle East - Palestine: The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Hisham Sharaf, condemned the Israeli Foreign Minister's storming of Bab Al-Amud in occupied East Al-Quds.

Minister Sharaf warned of the repercussions of the continuing acts of violence practiced by the Zionist occupation forces in Bab Al-Amud area against Palestinian civilians.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the continued escalation of the Zionist occupation forces threatens the security and stability of the region, calling on UN Security Council to held its responsibility to protect Palestinian civilians.

Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stormed late Sunday Bab Al-Amud area in occupied Jerusalem, and made promises to Jewish extremists to deploy more occupation forces and police in Jerusalem under the pretext of providing protection for them during the Jewish holidays.

Lapid was inciting against the Palestinians, as if there are only Jewish holidays, in complete disregard for the existence of Muslim and Christian holidays, and in denial of the fact that it is the Jewish extremists who attack the Christian and Islamic sanctities and their followers.

Lapid’s visit surrounded by police officers is conclusive proof that he is an occupier and is afraid to walk on occupied land.

Bab Al-Amud in occupied Jerusalem still represents an element of security tension. In light of continuous Israeli violations, crimes of settlers and the attempts by the "Temple Movements" to Judaise the various landmarks of the Holy City, the occupation army does not hesitate to use aggressive means against Palestinians.

Bab Al-Amud has a high possibility of erupting due to the arbitrary Israeli measures it is experiencing. Therefore, during the first moments preceding the outbreak of the last Gaza war, many civil and human rights organisations warned of the consequences of such steps, especially in a place considered a central gathering for Palestinian youth.

Nonetheless, the occupation forces ignored these calls and caused a domino effect, which developed into the Gaza war. Today, more than ten months after its outbreak, what is happening in Bab Al-Amud and East Jerusalem reveals an increase in the intensity of occupation police violence. Specifically, it shows the occupation's concentration in this area, where the provocations bear a more serious dimension because they coincide with Muslim religious celebrations.
