After Failure to Achieve Victory in Aggression against Yemen, Saudi Arabia Turns to Truce

Yemen: Saudi foreign policy used to deal with its regional conflicts by playing conspiracy cards and waging wars by proxy or by provoking incitement and chaos against its opponents, but the third generation of Al Saud princes found themselves for the first time tasked with waging a comprehensive war in Yemen.

And when the US-Saudi coalition began to launch its military operations on Yemeni soil, Saudi Arabia asked the United States to lead that coalition of 17 countries and promised to resolve the battle within months, according to the New York Times report early this month.

After 8 years of failure, the kingdom found itself overwhelmed in the quagmire that the colonial powers, led by the United States and the Zionist entity, set for it and the Gulf countries, especially after it incurred huge military and economic losses estimated at billions of dollars.

At the beginning of the war on Yemen, Saudi Arabia bet on its military forces and its local and international allies, to achieve a quick victory in Yemen. The Kingdom also bet on supporting the hegemony of colonial powers to provide a card for international connivance of the crimes that will be committed in Yemen, in an effort to ensure “victory”.

The orgy of the Saudi regime did not end at mentioning a decisive and lightning battle in Yemen within months, as former coalition spokesman “Ahmed Asiri” announced on the third day of the war on Yemen the destruction of all radar systems and the destruction of 80% of the Yemeni ballistic missile capabilities, indicating that the battle will only take two weeks.

Saudi Arabia has paid billions of dollars in an attempt to achieve a quick victory, in purchasing more quality and advanced weapons, and providing foreign mercenaries from “Blackwater” and the Sudanese Janjaweed, in addition to the high operating costs, logistical support and money that the Kingdom gave to the colonial powers and international organizations.

Yemen's Steadfastness Blows US-Saudi Aggression

With the passage of the first months of the aggression, the facts of that battle proved that the Yemeni Armed Forces, despite the siege they faced, were able to withstand the aggression and inflict the coalition in general and Saudi Arabia in particular at all levels.

The recent report of the United Nations panel of experts, last September, confirmed that the Saudi army despite its bureaucratic weapons, and its intelligence services have proven that it is incapable of managing the war in Yemen.

The report pointed out that the confusion of the Saudi strategy and the fragility of its alliances with local and Gulf powers made the war backfire on it.

After the first months of the war passed, it was proven that the coalition’s victory became impossible, at that time Saudi Arabia had no choice but to consider other options based on negotiation and settlement with Sana’a forces.

By signing the initial truce with Sanaa forces in Geneva consultations on June 16, 2015, Saudi Arabia aimed to ensure the rearrangement of its ranks by recruiting foreign mercenaries from Sudan and Senegal and new local mercenaries, after the coalition and its old mercenaries failed to achieve their desired goals and incurred heavy losses.

To cover up the scandal of Saudi Arabia’s inability and failure to manage the war, Saudi Arabia reduced the intensity of the coalition’s military operation.

At that time, Saudi Arabia resorted again to calm to ensure the rearrangement of its local mercenaries, after the coalition forces were unable to advance towards Sana’a and incur heavy losses on the Nihm front, and a new ceasefire agreement was reached through Kuwaiti consultations in early August 2016.

The US-Saudi coalition took advantage of the ceasefire and quickly recruited new mercenaries from the terrorist groups of the “Al-Qaeda and Daesh” organizations to fight in their ranks against the Yemeni Army and Popular Committees.

After the failure of the Kuwaiti consultations, the coalition forces used another card in the areas under the control of the Sana’a government in order to ignite internal chaos. However, the Sana’a forces were able to eliminate these rebellions, which led to the death of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh on December 4, 2018.

Sana’a forces were able to impose their control over large areas in Yemen and in the Saudi depth, which resulted in the liberation of the entire fronts of Nihm, Al-Jawf and Al-Baidha governorates, large areas in Al-Dhalea, and control of 12 districts out of 14 districts in Marib.

Retaliatory Attacks
Since the beginning of 2019, the Yemeni Armed Forces have shifted from defense to attack as a result of developing their capabilities in military manufacturing, specifically with regard to ballistic and winged missiles, drones, defense and reconnaissance systems, and military intelligence services, as well as the growth of its manpower with its multiple military formations.

With the Saudi war entering its eighth year, the Yemeni Armed Forces - according to numbers and facts - are in the victorious position as they turned the balance of military forces in their favor, especially after they achieved a great and remarkable development in the war industries and military and intelligence tactics inside Yemen and in the Saudi depth.

While Saudi Arabia and the coalition concealing their losses in the war on Yemen, the Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree’ announced in a press conference entitled “The harvest of seven Years of steadfastness in the face of US-Saudi aggression” last March 22, that tens of thousands of US-Saudi forces and mercenaries were killed and injured.

The Armed Forces spokesman said that the operations carried out during the battle to confront the US-Saudi aggression exceeded 13,208 military operations, including 6,681 defensive and retaliatory operations and 6,527 countering and thwarting offensive attempts by the US-Saudi aggression.

Brigadier Saree explained that this force relied on the accumulation of experience in the military institution, as well as benefiting from experiences in development. “The Rocketry Force now depends 100 percent on Yemeni expertise,” he confirmed.

He said, "During the battle for freedom and independence that continues to this day, the Rocketry Force carried out 1,826 military operations, including 1,237 operations targeting the enemy's gatherings, mobilizations, military camps and headquarters inside Yemen, and 589 operations targeting the Saudi-Emirati depths."

Brigadier-General Sare’e indicated that, in addition to the Rocktery Force, the Air Force and drones carried out 11,562 operations, including 953 targeting  Saudi-Emirati depths. The number of reconnaissance operations reached 8,433, and reconnaissance operations constituted an intelligence importance in the military battle.

He added that the Air Force has, during the last year, expanded the circle of reconnaissance operations to include all the territories of the Saudi and Emirati enemies, in addition to the territorial waters of Yemen in the Arab and Red seas, as well as the Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab, and it will soon reach what is beyond that.

The spokesman of the Armed Forces stated that the total number of Air Defense operations amounted to 4,221 operations, which varied between confronting and forcing departure, as well as interception and shooting down.

The Air Defense units carried out 1,971 shooting down and injuring operations, and 2,250 repelling and interception operations.

“158 combat reconnaissance warplanes, 13 warplanes, 10 Apaches,  six helicopters, including the Black Hawk, 34 US Air Force drones, and 95 spy reconnaissance drones were downed,” Sare’e said.

Brigadier-General Saree stated that during the seven years, the naval and coastal defense forces carried out 35 qualitative operations, most recently the seizing of the Emirati military cargo ship “Rawabi” after Entering Yemeni waters.

The Armed Forces spokesman revealed the total operations carried out by the ground units (military engineering - snipers - shields - artillery), amounted to 211 thousand and 136 operations

The military engineering unit has carried out 52,175 operations, 22,854 of them are targeting US-Saudi forces and mercenaries gatherings.

The Anti-Armored Unit carried out 7,412 operations, 2,689 of them targeted the enemy's fortifications, gatherings and barracks and 4723 other operations targeted armored vehicles.

The Artillery Unit carried out 85,634 operations, including 1150 joint operations with drones.

The sniper unit carried out 65,915 operations since its activation; it has succeeded in sniping 941 Saudi officers and soldiers.

Observers of the Yemeni affairs confirmed that Saudi Arabia acquiesced after 8 years of failure and reap defeats, and after it was proven that it was impossible to achieve any military achievement on the ground, which prompted it to search for a truce that would pave the way for it to get out of the Yemeni quagmire.

In early April, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the nationwide ceasefire, for the first time since 2016, saying the two-month truce would be eligible for renewal with the consent of parties. The truce meant to halt all military operations in the country and to bring the foreign military invasion to an end.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the truce "must be a first step to ending Yemen’s devastating war," urging the warring parties to build on the opportunity to "resume an inclusive and comprehensive Yemeni political process."

The deal stipulates halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen’s lifeline al-Hudaydah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana’a "to predetermined destinations in the region."
