Foreign Minister Calls on German Government to Resume Its Activities in Sana'a

News - Yemen: Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed with the Ambassador of Germany to Yemen Hubert Jaeger on Wednesday the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen and possible ways to deal with the current situation.

In regard to addressing the political and humanitarian developments in Yemen, Hisham Sharaf stressed that the Supreme Political Council and the Salvation Government supported entering into a truce to achieve steps that would address the humanitarian situation and alleviate the suffering of millions of Yemeni people.

He pointed to the importance of working to complete confidence-building measures to reach a peaceful political settlement and sustainable peace.

The Foreign Minister pointed out that the Saudi-backed side is seeking, through the truce, to create a state of no peace and no war and to keep the humanitarian aspect suspended without finding permanent solutions, which is constantly reflected in the obstacles to the entry of ships loaded with oil, domestic gas and containers.

Minister Sharaf stated that commercial flights were not operated according to the truce, which included the conduct of regular and programmed flights on a periodic basis, facilitating the process of travel and return of citizens without harassment and obstruction.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs called on the friendly German government to resume its activity in the capital, Sana’a, in the way it desires.

He emphasized Sana’a’s readiness to provide all diplomatic facilities, privileges and immunities out of trust and dependence on Berlin and the European Union to support diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the military aggression and the comprehensive siege and the return to normal life for the Yemeni citizen.

The Yemenis are suffering from a massive humanitarian catastrophe, created by the countries that started the aggressive war on Yemen.

For his part, the German ambassador stressed that the situation in Yemen occupies a place in the work of German foreign policy.

He pointed out that a peaceful political solution is the only solution through which the humanitarian situation will be addressed.

In early April, after Yemen’s Supreme Political Council declared a voluntary and unilateral three-day pause in retaliatory strikes against targets in Saudi Arabia, the UN special envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the nationwide ceasefire, for the first time since 2015.

The deal stipulates halting offensive military operations, including cross-border attacks, and allowing fuel-laden ships to enter Yemen's lifeline Hodeidah port and commercial flights in and out of the airport in the capital Sana'a "to predetermined destinations in the region ."

However, in light of UN silence, the Saudi-led aggression was still obstructing flights to the Sana'a International Airport in Yemen’s capital and detaining fuel ships that were headed to the country. The fires of the aggression side did not subside along the fronts, on the borders and inside, including shelling, reconnaissance, development and crawl.

In early June, the United Nations announced that Yemen’s National Salvation Government and the US-Saudi coalition have agreed to renew the two-month truce after days of negotiations and promises to fulfill the terms of the agreement.

The UN envoy noted that the truce was extended under the same terms as the previous one.

The United Nations continues to condone the crimes committed by the Saudi-led aggression. It only holds the coalition responsible for crimes when it seeks to blackmail the Kingdom and oblige it to pay millions of dollars. The UN is not concerned with the souls of the victims, as it provided cover for this aggression for years, and kept silent in the face of many of its criminal practices, whether through raids or sieges.
