Yemenis Mark Mourn Martyrdom of Imam Hussein, Show Solidarity with Palestinians

News - Yemen: Large mass rally in the capital, Sana’a, and other Yemeni Provinces took place on Monday, the tenth of Muharram, in commemoration of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon Him).

The Yemenis show solidarity with the Palestinian people as the Palestinian issue was largely dominated by the Ashura march this year.

The participants emphasized the similarity between the Yemeni and Palestinian issues and the grievances of the two peoples who are subjected to aggression, killing, bombing and destruction by the forces of global arrogance, America and Zionism.

The crowd, who carried Yemeni and Palestinian flags, freedom slogans and occasion banners, chanted slogans condemning the aggression against Yemen and Palestine, calling for steadfastness and confronting the aggressors.

The Mufti of Yemen, the scholar Shams Al-Din Sharaf Al-Din, explained in a speech during the march in Sana'a that the goal of commemorating Ashura is to link the nation to the scholars of guidance and its responsibility towards its causes.

“A nation that has no past, will have no present nor future. When we commemorate Ashura, we commemorate all the values that the occasion carried,” Sharaf Al-Din said.

He added that those who separated the Nation's present from its past have abandoned their responsibilities and today "we can see their positions toward Palestine and the Nation's issues."

“When we talk about Imam Hussein, we are talking about the divine approach that Allah assigned to his servants so that the Nation moves in bearing the responsibility,” he added.

The Mufti of Yemen stressed that what prompted Imam Hussein to revolutionize is the duty of responsibility, and our religion is based on honesty, courage and active presence in the arenas.

“We are with you, people of Palestine, our ranks, our hands, and everything we have is with you,” he said addressing the Palestinian people. “O people of Palestine, do not doubt Allah’s sincere promise of victory. You, in your standing and steadfastness, please Allah and bring joy to every free people.”

Meanwhile, the march statement denounced all forms of normalization and relations with the Israeli enemy, and considered them among the religiously forbidden loyalty.

"We affirm our principled adherence to the issues of our Nation, in the center of which is the Palestinian cause, our position against the Israeli enemy and American arrogance, and our solidarity with the peoples of our Islamic Nation,” the statement added, considering this an essential part of the uncompromising religious commitment.

It strongly condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza, targeting the leaders of the resistance, and the repeated incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The statement renewed support for the Palestinian right to respond to the Israeli attacks, calling on the peoples and free people of the Nation to stand with the oppressed Palestinian people.

It stressed Yemenis principled position with the axis of jihad and resistance in the face of the Jews and the Zionists until they are defeated and the sanctities in Palestine are liberated.

It affirmed Yemenis stand by Lebanon in the face of Israeli threats, and by the Islamic resistance represented by Hezbollah.

“The strength that Hezbollah has accumulated represents a strength not only for Lebanon, but for the entire Nation, and a spearhead for the axis of resistance,” The statement said. “In light of the announced truce, we say to the coalition of aggression, our hands are on the trigger, and we are continuing to prepare the force to confront your aggression, siege and arrogance.”

Millions of Muslims around the world mark Ashura, the 10th day of the Muslim month of Muharram.

Ashura is when Imam Hussein (AS), a grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.

Muharram is one of the most sacred months in the Islamic calendar because of the sacrifices that were made by the family of Prophet Muhammad to establish the message of humanity. The first ten days of the month hold the most significance during which the battle took place. The rituals around the world during these ten days differ with local traditions and customs, but lamenting over the martyrdom is common everywhere.

The wearing of black clothes and beating the chest to the songs of lamentation to symbolize mourning is practiced among Shia Muslims. They mark the occasion to remember the unimaginable sufferings of the 72 martyrs and their families in the desert battlefield.

The caravan was on its way from Saudi Arabia to Iraq where people had declared allegiance to Imam Hussein. The massive army of the tyrant of the time, Yazid, stopped them in the plains of Karbala where Imam Hussein and his companions chose to fight to their last breath rather than pledge allegiance to caliph Yazid.

Ashura renews in Muslims grief and reminds them of the great affliction, ignites in their hearts enthusiasm to start in the line of Hussein (AS) and to join his faith in rejecting oppression and tyrants.

Meanwhile, Yemen has condemned the Israeli regime's crimes and aggression against the Palestinian people amid the inaction of international organizations.

Tensions have skyrocketed across the Palestinain coastal sliver and the occupied territories since Friday, when the Israeli regime carried out a massacre against the Gaza City, killing as many as 24 people, including Taysir al-Jabari, a senior Islamic Jihad commander, and six children.

The regime kept up the aggression, killing 19 others, including nine children and another Islamic Jihad commander, identified as Khaled Mansour, who died as a result of the regime’s strikes targeting the city of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, more than 300 others have also been wounded as a result of the Israeli attacks.

The Islamic Jihad responded by firing hundreds of rockets towards the occupied territories. Three Israelis have been wounded by shrapnel over the same period, while 31 others have been lightly hurt, said the regime’s emergency services.

The movement confirmed the timing of the ceasefire, but said it "reserves the right to respond to any Zionist aggression."

The escalation was the worst to involve the two sides since the regime’s last war on the enclave that took place last May, killing hundreds of Palestinians.
