Truck Drivers Protests Arbitrary Treatment by Saudi-UAE mercenaries, Transitional Council

News - Yemen: Transport drivers carried out a protest sit-in in Jaoula area in Tebn District of Lahj Governorate, calling for an end to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) leaders’ attacks against truck Drivers.

The protesters demanded the reopening of the union's office and enabling the leadership of the new union to carry out its work without obstruction. They confirmed that their strike will continue until their legitimate demands are met and the detainees are released.

Recently, A UN committee is concerned about the UAE forces committing crimes of torture in Yemen, and calls for the elimination of social violence in the UAE. The United Nations Committee Against Torture has expressed concern about torture and ill-treatment by the UAE armed forces, state security agencies and non-state armed groups in Yemen.

The committee noted the UAE's involvement in the conflict in Yemen, and assigned special responsibility to investigations and prosecutions in relation to crimes of torture and ill-treatment, and called for a "viable path through which victims seek justice and redress."

The Committee also expressed concern about the continued practice of female genital mutilation in the UAE, and the lack of legislation criminalizing it. It called on the UAE state to "strengthen its efforts to eliminate gender-based violence and harmful practices by enacting new legislation and organizing awareness campaigns."

The French newspaper "Le Monde" revealed, in a 2019 report, that the UAE ran a secret prison in a military base that it established in mid-2017 on a part of a gas field in southern Yemen.

The report pointed out that "the testimonies speak of inhuman and degrading treatment (denial of care, torture) committed by Emirati soldiers."

Also, sources in Al-Mayadeen revealed that the Saudi forces had turned Al-Ghaydah Airport in Al-Mahra Governorate, in eastern Yemen, into a secret prison for activists opposed to its presence there.

In June 2018, a report by the US Associated Press revealed that hundreds of Yemeni detainees had been tortured and sexually abused by Emirati officers in a secret prison in southern Yemen. The report revealed the existence of at least 18 secret prisons, where detainees are tortured under the supervision of US forces and the UAE government.
