Syed Mohsin Abbas, a UK-based journalist and commentator, made the remarks on Press TV’s Spotlight Sunday edition, reacting to a joint statement issued by China and GCC states at the end of their summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday.
In their statement, the Arab leaders affirmed their support for all peaceful efforts, including the initiative and endeavors of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to reach a peaceful solution to the issue of the three islands through bilateral negotiations in accordance with the rule of international law.
This is while the strategic islands of Abu Musa, the Lesser Tunb, and the Greater Tunb have always been part of Iran's territory, the proof of which can be found in countless historical, legal, and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world.
Tehran has on numerous occasions firmly rejected claims made by the UAE to the three Iranian islands, affirming the country's sovereignty over them.
The GCC group of Persian Gulf countries, however, has kept pursuing the failed policy on the “orders” of Tel Aviv and Washington as part of the maximum pressure campaign against Iran, Abbas asserted.
“They leave no stone unturned, no matter how ridiculous, old, or dated that might be to raise this issue; it simply creates more potential conflict, tension, and confusion,” he said.
The UK-based analyst described GCC as a “puppet organization” and a “proxy” that is totally dependent on the military power of the West for its existence.
He likened the GCC member countries to “cows to be milked” by the US, “executing the Oded Yinon Plan” which is essentially designed to give the Israeli regime foothold in the region.
The Yinon Plan refers to an article published in February 1982 in the Hebrew journal Kivunim entitled “A Strategy for Israel in the 1980s.”
The plan was a continuation of Britain’s colonial design in the Middle East and an Israeli strategic plan to ensure the regime's regional superiority. It stipulates that Israel must reconfigure its geo-political environment through the balkanization of the surrounding Arab states into smaller and weaker states.
Abbas said all GCC states, ultimately, are client states of the Anglo-Zionist empire, and the newly issued statement is just another example of “toeing the line.”
Firas al-Najim, a Canada-based human rights activist, told Press TV that Persian Gulf states are trying to implement the designs of colonizers that put them in power.
The Persian Gulf countries, “installed by British colonizers” have never had any real true sovereignty, he remarked.
Najim said the UAE plans to use the three islands in the Persian Gulf to “work against the region’s interests,” “destabilize more countries,” and “collect more intelligence to infiltrate in another country” like what they did in Libya, Iraq, Syria, or Afghanistan.
“They are trying to exert maximum pressure to destabilize Iran and to weaken it, to cause more turmoil inside Iran and it is going to fail miserably as it always did,” he stated.
‘GCC states, US complicit in creating takfiri groups’
While the group accused Iran of "continuing to support terror groups in the region", Abbas noted that all GCC countries were “hand in glove” with the US in creating Takfiri terrorist groups.
“All of these nations are fully implicated in funding and supporting and financing [takfiri groups’] destruction in the whole region,” he said, hailing Iran and the top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani for their indefatigable efforts in fighting terrorism in the region.
“The only force that has prevented ISIS and takfiri terrorism from becoming a reality for all of the nations in the region was General Soleimani and the Resistance Axis in the region,” Abbas noted.
General Soleimani was targeted in a US drone strike authorized by then-US President Donald Trump near the Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020. The attack also killed the deputy chief of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis among others.
Abbad slammed the GCC states for housing American bases and giving “full carte blanche” to the US forces to wrest the Persian Gulf away from Iranian control as a part of the Zionist strategy.
GCC, US attempt to sway China
On China's president's participation in the GCC summit that led to the issuance of the anti-Iran statement, Abbas said that the natural inclination of the GCC should be to align with China and be part of its Belt and Road initiative, and by default, to align with Iran as well.
However, he said, the GCC states are locked in an “internal struggle” over what they should do but cannot because Tel Aviv and Washington will not consent.
“I think the fact that they raised the issue of the [Iranian] islands was a deliberate way of telling China that you cannot get a free ride by building your belt and road around here, because we can still dictate conflict and divisions,” he said.
“I think that the Chinese are being given that warning by the Americans through their proxies here."
In March 2021, Iran and China signed a $400 billion 25-year strategic cooperation agreement, as part of China’s Belt and Road initiative, a massive infrastructure project stretching from East Asia to Europe, with a focus on the private sector.
The deal aims to bolster economic cooperation between Tehran and Beijing and paves the way for Iran's participation in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Meanwhile, following GCC's anti-Tehran statement the Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Chang Hua was invited to the Iranian Foreign Ministry to "express dissatisfaction" over the joint China-GCC statement.
He reaffirmed Beijing's respect for Iran's territorial integrity, saying Chinese President Xi Jinping paid the visit to Riyadh at the time of the summit as part of Beijing's efforts to help further consolidate regional peace and stability and to promote negotiation as an instrument of resolving the regional problems.
