Fisheries: $14 billion Losses Caused by US-Saudi Aggression in Fishing Sector Past 8 Years

News - Yemen: The Ministry of Fisheries held a press conference, Tuesday, during which it reviewed the most prominent losses caused by the aggression and the blockade on the fish sector for 8 years.

The ministry stated, during the press conference, that the number of martyrs and wounded fishermen reached 491, while the aggression destroyed 476 fishing boats, and the navy of the aggression kidnapped more than 2,000 fishermen and looted more than 173 boats.

The Ministry pointed out that the losses of the fisheries sector over eight years amounted to 14 billion and 457 million dollars.

It confirmed that more than 80 direct attacks by the warships and aircraft of the aggression targeted islands, fishing ports and fish landing centers in 53 marine areas.

Abdulghani Al-Wali, Undersecretary of the Production and Marketing Services Sector at the Ministry of Fisheries, held the international community and the United Nations, fully responsible for protecting Yemeni fishermen and ensuring their safety.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the United States and regional allies, launched the war on Yemen in March 2015, claiming the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi back to power.

The US-Saudi aggression continues to target neighborhoods and populated areas and destroy the infrastructure and capabilities of the country, in light of a suspicious international silence.

The war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and displaced millions more. It has also destroyed Yemen’s infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases there.
