News - Yemen: The Yemeni Media Union (YMU) confirmed that the violations that the media sector and journalists have been subjected to in Yemen by the US-Saudi aggression will not be subject to a statute of limitations.

In a statement, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Union said, "Journalism and media work in the Republic of Yemen faces many challenges, most notably the continuation of the war and the blockade by the US-Saudi coalition on various Yemeni fields and sectors, especially the media sector and media institutions, which have been exposed During eight years of targeting."

He added, "The Yemeni Media Union believes with international covenants that the right does not lapse by statute of limitations, and that the violations that the media sector and journalists were subjected to in Yemen by the US-Saudi coalition forces will receive justice by prosecuting those involved in killing media professionals and targeting media institutions, through international courts based on International conventions that guarantee freedom of opinion and expression and the protection of journalists during war or conflict."

The statement continued: "We remind the international community and civil society institutions work in the field of rights and freedoms of their commitment to freedom of the press by defending media professionals and the Yemeni media from the repeated attacks by the coalition forces, most of which led to the killing of many media professionals and the destruction and suspension of a number of Yemeni media institutions.”

The statement called on all media professionals and journalists in various countries of the world to visit Yemen and see closely the violations that Yemeni journalists and their media institutions are subjected to.

The statement pointed out that the US-Saudi aggression coalition is still preventing journalists from visiting Yemen, and it also prevents the participation of Yemeni media professionals and journalists from leaving Yemen to participate in media conferences or receive treatment outside Yemen.
