Ministry of Fisheries Condemns Polluting Waters of Gulf of Aden by Ships Affiliated with the US-Saudi Aggression

News - Yemen: The Ministry of Fisheries condemned throwing hundreds of tons of waste into the waters of the Gulf of Aden by ships affiliated with the US-Saudi aggression .

The ministry revealed that many dead livestock have floated in the coasts along the region, which poses a great threat to public health and the marine environment.

It emphasized that the pollution of Yemeni waters with waste thrown by commercial and international ships is an irresponsible act that causes the destruction of the Yemeni marine environment, and leads to harm to marine life and fishermen.

It called on the relevant international organizations to hold accountable those who carry out these attacks and to contribute to protecting marine waters from it.

The Ministry of Fisheries affirmed its position rejecting these irresponsible behaviors that violate international and local law, calling on the UN and all international organizations to assume responsibility in protecting the marine environment and the interests of fishermen.

Over the past two decades, the marine environment in Yemen has been exposed to many environmental threats and disasters caused by oil and fuel storage tanks, through the spillage and leakage of thousands of tons of oil and mazut into Yemeni territorial waters. This led to the pollution of large areas of beaches with oil spots and black foam, and the death of large quantities of fish and marine life.

With the continuation of the US-Saudi aggression against Yemen for eight years, the beaches and seas of Yemen are exposed to more dangerous threats, which no longer enjoy any government sovereignty.

More than once, local media reported pictures documenting the unprecedented proliferation of dangerous oil and non-oil vehicles, in the complete absence of government authorities in the occupied areas.
