Iran’s Army Commander Warns Taliban To Respect Border Regulations after Unprovoked Attack
News - Middle East: The Islamic Republic will change its approach if Afghanistan fails to respect international regulations and the principles of good neighborliness, says a senior Iranian commander.
The warning by Commander of the Iranian Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari came a day after Afghanistan's Taliban forces launched an unprovoked attack across Iran’s southeastern border, prompting a decisive response from the Iranian border guards.
“If the neighboring state respects international border regulations, we will observe [the principles of] good neighborliness in return and display mutual respect,” General Heidari said during a visit to the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
The commander stressed that Iran would pursue a different approach toward the neighbors if they fail to comply with international regulations. He said the border areas with Afghanistan are under complete control of the Iranian Army's Ground Forces.
Two Iranian border guards were killed and two civilians wounded during the exchange of gunfire on Saturday.
