The Middle East Monitor: Bin Salman Uses Hajj As Weapon To Punish Dissidents, Journalists Critical of Regime

News -   Middle East: The Middle East Monitor website published an article in which it said that the Saudi regime allows its critics to enter the Kingdom to perform Hajj or Umrah and then arrests and forcibly disappears them or hands them over to other repressive regimes.

According to the website, a group of humanitarian organizations and prominent activists accused the Saudi regime of arming Hajj and Umrah, to punish political opponents or journalists like me who criticize the regime's abuse of power.

The website stated that a statement signed by humanitarian organizations indicated that Muslim activists, politicians and scholars from all over the world are unable to perform Hajj and Umrah as required by their faith.

The statement also exposes how others are lured into Saudi Arabia to be forcibly disappeared or handed over to other repressive regimes that violate their freedoms, pointing out that it is the duty of every Muslim to perform the Hajj and no nation-state in the Kingdom should be able to prevent them.

The website said, "It is ironic that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today, the last place where you can enjoy your rights as a Muslim, is the home of Muhammad bin Salman, who is seen as the crown prince and de facto ruler of the kingdom as (the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques)."

The website quoted the signatories to the statement calling on "all scholars of the Islamic world, scientific institutions, human rights organizations and all Muslims in the world to remind the Saudi government of its duty towards the holy places and their visitors, and to inform them explicitly that enabling all Muslims to visit them and ensuring their safety is a legitimate right and an imposed duty that must be done to the fullest." without discrimination or political bias.

The website considered that "Bin Salman is likely to ignore this campaign, as he did with similar calls, due to his nature since he assumed power in Riyadh."

The website pointed out that Western governments that pay lip service to human rights may turn a blind eye to the plight of victims of injustice in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in return for the flow of oil and huge arms deals.
