Emirati-Saudi Interest Renews Confrontation in Yemen's Island, Socotra

News – Yemen: The UAE assigned an extremist figure to carry out extensive secret missions in the occupied Yemeni island of Socotra under the humanitarian and social actions.

Informed political sources confirmed that the UAE granted the so-called Mukhtar Al-Hankasi, who heads the “Socotra Archipelago Association,” supervisory tasks over security with its mercenaries in Socotra, indicating that all security and military movements have become within the tasks managed by the Al-Hankasi Foundation in the island.

Al-Hankasi received large sums of money from the Emirates, and he was able to distribute its mercenaries in all the security and local facilities of suspected loyalty to the Saudi “duty 808” forces in Hadiboh, so that he would receive information first-hand.

The sources explained that Al-Hankasi assumed various tasks for the association that he runs by transferring information and reports to the Emirati intelligence by monitoring the movements against its presence, after the visit of the Saudi “Support forces” leader, Sultan Al-Baqami, Sobha, the government’s defense minister, Mohsen Al-Daari, to Socotra in early April.

The sources stated that the UAE is engaged in an intelligence conflict with Saudi interests in the island, suggesting that it will carry out terrorist operations to serve the interests of Abu Dhabi.

The sources pointed out that Abu Dhabi has achieved major breakthroughs through Al-Hinkasi's network and the reports he submits about daily life in Socotra on local and security officials loyal to the government of the coalition on the island.

In September 2020, press reports revealed that the UAE and its loyal factions on the island had carried out large-scale purchases of lands and important mountainous heights in the archipelago's tourist reserves, which were led by the Emirati representative, Khalfan Al Mazrouei, and a number of leaders affiliated with the coalition.

According to reports, among those lands are large areas in the coast (Delsha) located north of Socotra to the east of the capital, Hadiboh, which is one of the most beautiful and important tourist beaches that visitors and tourists from all over the world come to enjoy with its clean air and stunning views, and another in the national park in the reserve ( Dixum), in addition to buying a large area on the coast of the “Qa’ara” region, southwest of Socotra.

Reports confirmed that the Emirati delegate fenced off the land that was purchased and built inside, and placed strict security guards on it from outside Socotra and surveillance cameras to track citizens.

It is worth noting that Article (385) of the Yemeni Law of 2015 prohibits owning or owning sea beaches, coasts and natural reserves, and the law regulates their exploitation and use.

Environmental experts and organizations had previously warned of the possibility of excluding Socotra from the World Natural Heritage List due to the tampering with which the island was exposed at the hands of the coalition forces.
